Incredible! I didn't even know you were in the UK when we started this little chat. I am from Hazel Grove originally, but then my parents moved to Marple and finally Poynton. Myself, I moved down to Bristol after I left home for University. That was a long time ago, but I still come up every few weeks to visit my Mum, since she's on her own up there.

Well next time your heading to the Bulls Head, drop me a priv message and will pop up for a pint. Btw, I can see the pub from out my window, thats how uncanny this is haha.

Back on topic for a moment, this fix has cured another problem that sometimes (99% of the time probably) it would take ages to log off or switch users. I only do that once in a blue moon, so hadn't really thought about it nor tried to fix it. Seems the same problem was at the root of that too, because log off and user switching is instant again :)

I just unmounted /net by following this guide:
http://osxdaily.com/2013/11/24/slow-open-save-dialog-problem-mac-os-x/

....and now stat on backups.backupdb returns straight back with file not found.

Please note I have not looked into what effect this will have on the rest of the system so will need to keep an eye out.

Great find my man!!! This seems much more long term than forgetting servers, as I connect to them quite a bit and that menu would keep filling. All is well again. Glad it helped you too Chippy99!

FCPX 10.1.1 slow to open with routers, etc...

I have (had) a similar problem with delayed start up of FCPX and to make a long story short FCPX doesn't seem to like my U-Verse router/gateway (ethernet hook up) as it is looking for libraries and seems to hang whilst searching .. I installed an internet cut off switch and now the FCPX opens very fast without hanging..:)

Great that worked for you! You might also try the link Anim posted (http://osxdaily.com/2013/11/24/slow-...blem-mac-os-x/), just so you won't have to cut the network connection off each time.

I read that article and I am of the believe that we should NOT start working via the Terminal to resolve issues..(This is a $ 300 piece of software) This should be fixed by Apple...In the meantime I am OK with this.. (In fact once I am working with FCPX I don't mind the network connection is off..)

I know it's been a while since anyone posted here but I just found the thread. Thanks for this work around. It was driving me crazy. Works like a charm now.

After upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite, the problem is back. Editing the /etc/auto_master file is having no effect.

Anyone else? I'd love to fix this thing again. It's very annoying. Using the latest update of FCPX 10.1.3 BTW.

Same here with Yosemite, the problem still persists even when editing the /etc/auto_master file and applying all other fixes.

I hope someone will find a solution for Yosemite users like me !
