The gloss on the MBA isn't bad either, I used to have a "raccoon" iMac and the glass front drove me nuts.
I know this is seriously OT, and am sorry about it, but: would you care to elaborate this?

I'm very much on the fence about getting an iMac 3Ghz - and would have done so weeks ago, if it wasn't for the glossy screen, which I'm not sure I can get used to, and the 23" ACD I could continue to use if I got an (overpriced) Mac Pro.

TIA!

Sure. The display is VERY important to me as I do graphic design & photography everyday. About a year ago, before I had my MBP, I had a 24" iMac for about two months (on and off). 2 replacements later and weeks in between with no computer (AHHHHH!!!) I couldn't deal with it anymore. Here's the problems I had with it:

•Super glossy screen drove me crazy. As with most glossy screens, any part of the screen that's black or very dark turns into a mirror. It's even more intense on the iMac though, because it's actually glass

• Color temp on the display varied from left to right. Everything was tinted slghtly blue on one side of the screen and slightly yellow on the other. This also is apparent on the MBP I have now, except from top to bottom instead of side to side.

• Uneven backlighting. It was splotchy in general and way brighter on the left side. When watching a movie or doing something full screen it was very obvious. This is also apparent on my MBP from top to bottom.

Basically the only Apple display that I can really stare at for extended periods of time is the 30".
