MP 7,1 Finally! MacOS & Bootcamp support RX 6900 XT

After installed the MacOS 11.4 beta, I've got both Vega II Duo and RX 6900 XT working together finally!!!

And after some configuration in Bootcamp, I've got both cards working together, too!!

So exciting!! Apple does not give up Mac Pro! (not yet) XD

And RX 6900 XT is so powerful that reaches 180K score in Geekbench 5.

It is impossible to use GPU for mining except Apple makes Metal supporting it.

But Vega II Duo has 2.6x performance than RX 6900 XT in ETH mining, thanks to its HBM2 memory.

What program on boot camp in windows can control the core clock, vram, power limit of the Radeon pro gpus like Vega ii snd w5700x? The Radeon pro software doesn’t seem to have tuning controls like on the regular amd software, snd msi afterburner doesn’t work either to tune

I am using Team Red Miner.
I have tried few miners, this one is the best for AMD cards.

But how about a program that can tune the gpu, lower power, voltage, etc? On a regular PC Radeon software works with regular gpus, but I can’t get these pro mpx modules to be configurable in something like msi afterburner

I’m not using that red team miner, not sure if that has built in gpu power controls

It has auto tuning feature, you can do manual tuning, too.
But as manual tuning is complex, I’m using auto tune only.
And the performance is great enough, so I think manual tuning is not necessary.
Maybe you should try it first and compare to the one you are using currently.

You waste your time and energy and damaging your card and the planet for nothing.

This mining app has a fee. Then you have to pay fees for transferring to an exchange. Then pay another fee to convert to cash. Then if you were miraculously lucky to make sufficient cash there might be capital gains taxes. And you will never be able to compete against these CCP ASIC miners that are pushing up the hash rate and electrical cost.

how did you get them both working together in Boot Camp? Every time I install the driver for the pro radeon , it uninstalls the regular adrenaline software. How can I get both to work?

These are my methods to install 6900 XT driver in Bootcamp. It works fine with my 2 Vega II Duo cards.

1. You need to remove all Apple version AMD drivers for Vega II first by DDU software. In the DDU pannel, the first time, select "remove and not restart", and the second time, select "remove and restart". I don't know why we need to do it twice; just I follow other people's steps.

If you are using thunderbolt monitors such as LG ultrafine or Pro Display XDR, I suggest you set up a remote desktop for your Bootcamp Windows before doing these steps. Because when you remove the driver for the GPU, you can't get the signal from the thunderbolt 3 port. You need to operate following steps from another laptop by remote access App, such as Microsoft Remote Desktop.

2. Download and install AMD driver from Bootcampdrivers.com. In the setup process, select "clean install", it means to remove all driver again. The website has two versions for download. The Blue version is optimized for computation, and red version can tune the clock of 6900 XT and monitor more information about all GPU. I suggest using the red version. Don't try the official driver from AMD website, and it will show error 173.

In these steps, the system will reboot many times. After that, you can find all devices in the Device Manager window.

3. Another important thing I need to mention is the power supply issue if you would like to use 2 Vega II Duo at the same time. In the beginning, I use two 8 pin-8 pin cables from the motherboard for 6900XT. But when I run all 5 GPUs together, I notice that the voltage and core frequency of Vega II are not stable. It means the two 8pin ports in the motherboard share the power with the MPX module. So, I replace one of 8 pin-8 pin cables with an 6 pin -8 pin cable from the independent 6pin port on the motherboard. That can fix the power supply issue.

Thank you - that is helpful, I was able to get them both in there, but like you said, when running all 3 there are some issues.

I still can't tune the MPX Radeon Pro GPUs like I can tune the 6800xt, though. Any idea if that is even possible? Like reducing power, memory overclocks, etc.

I don't know how to tune MPX module. If you learn how to do that, please also let me know. Thanks.

You can write custom Powerplay tables in MacOS to adjust the voltage etc, it’s done with Hackintoshes all the time.

It requires a custom kext to inject the table. It probably needs SIP and everything else turned off on a real Mac that isn’t running OpenCore, so it’s probably an enormous pain in the ass. But it is possible. Just search for VGTab on Google

Is it possible to get a picture of the inside? Would love to add a 6900xt on top of the two Duos I have, but it seems like it'd be snug...

How's gaming performance in Bootcamp?

I had both the 6900 XT and 5700 MPX installed in my 7,1 and was able to get just the 6900 XT working (finally) with AMD adrenaline. Well, I just tried the bootcamp drivers over at https://www.bootcampdrivers.com/ to see if I could get the 5700 MPX to also register and work to drive my LG 5k, but now everything is not working! It worked briefly, but after a restart... it first loads my 6900 XT but the screen flickers before I login to Windows... then nothing...

I may have to start completely over with a fresh install which sucks. If you had to do this over again, what are your steps to get BOTH to work?

UPDATE: I had to start completely over and reinstall Windows 10 - fresh Boot Camp. Here was my method:

1. Install Windows 10 fresh with both the 5700 MPX and 6900 XT cards installed. When I did this it installs the blue generic AMD drivers included with Boot Camp.

2. Shut down and remove the 5700 MPX - boot into Windows with only the 6900 XT installed. Now, install the latest AMD adrenaline drivers (straight from AMD). I did not use the drivers from bootcampdrivers because it causes a flickering issue - which is why I had to start completely over. Once the true AMD Adrenaline drivers were installed, it made the 6900 XT work like it's supposed to.

3. I tested the machine - did some gaming without the 5700 MPX. Then I shut down and reinstalled MPX - booted into Windows 10 and everything is working together, no flickering. I am running an LG 38" Ultrawide on the 6900 XT, and an LG 5K Ultrafine via the 5700 MPX in Windows 10 and everything is working. I have not tried to reboot into Mac OS and then back to Windows 10, but so far is working (finally).

I think the main thing is: do it in this order and it should work!
