Now I wish I ordered it a week or so ago, cause I WANT IT NOW!!!:D

1) What do you think of the base 20" iMac? I only plan to use it for general computing, to watch recorded TV shows and maybe to serve NFS/smb to the other computers at home (and using TM as a single-point backup service for the entire house). I will upgrade the RAM to 2 or 3 GB using 3rd party DIMMs.

Luckily, my wifee was one that actually wanted the iMAC. For her picture, movies, and WoW; me Music and WoW.

I will say that even my wife noticed that the 20" iMac at bestbuy didn't look as good as the 24". Not that it was bad, and I think it was mainly do to the viewing angle.

Media Center? I think she needs an iMAC too ;)
2) Is this grounds for divorce? ;)

Tough question. Would she have grounds if you bought the 20" iMAC? If not, you are good to go!

not gonna get a divorce...

To those inquiring about my wife (and let's keep this clean, folks!): she is much younger than I and also very hot. I am merely a nondescript middle-aged IT guy making only a comfortable salary. Bottom line: I feel lucky to have her.

Now let's talk about the computer... I'm still not sure which screen size I want to get, and thus am not sure which graphics card I want either. I will probably also run Fusion on the box, supporting Solaris 10x86 and Linux 9and maybe even an evil OS). I doubt that I will attach a PVR to it -- seeing as how I already have so many! If I were, I'd probably choose the Plextor ConvertX product since it encodes (via hardware) directly to mpeg2 as well as mpeg4, and it can run on an evil OS and I think there are Linux drivers for it as well (not sure of this).

But, mainly, my PVR requirements are geared for uploading onto my 16g IPT.

What I'll probably end up doing is waiting until I am certain I know what I want, and then buy it and wait for the storm to pass... :D
