Awesome. I've been using 1.5 RC3 for the past few days and have REALLY taking a liking to Firefox. It is now my main browser and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Any big changes in the actual 1.5 release?

Still nothing in Firefox Update (or do I have to download the whole program?)

if you wait for that it could be a week. they stagger the requests for the auto-update to avoid server overload. your best bet is if you want it now, visit the link posted earlier.

it hasn't been announced yet either, which is another reason it won't show up in the update thing.

Neither the update tool in RC3 nor the mozilla homepage shows 1.5 as
being released !!!!

I have no idea, I jumped straight from 1.0.7 :)

Oh, cool. I'm on 1.5 right now and I'm not noticing any changes from RC3. I was a diehard Safari user until the other day when I decided to give RC3 a try. I love it. I had it running for like 3 days straight with all kinds of tabs open and didn't notice any memory leaks at all. That was really my only complaint with Safari. I do miss the on-the-fly spell-checking, but I'm a decent speller, so that's not too big of a problem. Firefox is great.

I thought 1.5 had universal binaries, but when you check the info box, under architecture it is still PowerPC?

It turns out that it's identical to RC3. They obviously found nothing wrong with it :)

Edit: Mitthrawnuruodo says that the final version is a bit smaller than RC3. Maybe only the Windows versions are identical.

I did, I did... just couldn't wait... Thanks for the link, Nermal... :D

Had to go in and remove those stupid default search engines (why are those included in the app itself, silly idea). I have all I want in my Firefox profile...

The final was a few MBs leaner than RC3 and feels a bit snapper™, but other than that it's not any apparent differences.

Anyone else has problems with List All Blocakbles Elements and Overlay Flash in Adblock. It doensn't seem to work properly, and hasn't done so for a couple of minor versions of Firefox...

Also, I hope this solves the problem with duplicate bookmark files in RC2 and RC3, I'm tired of all those backed up bookmark files in my Firefox profile...

hmm. When I go to the Firefox site, I get only the RC3, but your link seems to go to the right place... Cool. Thanks!

YOJ

Ok, so now I'm answering myself...

Problem solved. New version of Adblock out today that fixes the problem... Thanks for that... :)

Apparently not... :(

Firefox makes a copy of the bookmarks file every time the program is started (plus one copy a day into the bookmarksbackup folder). Bloody annoying. Anyone else has this problem? (And, yes, I've ditched pref files, even my whole profiles folder and redownloaded Firefox...)

Back to Firfox I go.

Not been too impressed with Safari recently.
I caved a short while ago. I'm very happy with FF.

Just remember to get Spellbound for spell checking. Not too impressed with the Norwegian dictionary, but at least it's there, Tiger has none...

Also Firefox supports VBulletin's text tools perfectly, making posting here at MR a much more plesant experience... ;))

Firefox is great. I really love how you can press the / button on your keyboard and search the entire page for any word or number you want. It makes sifting thought data=heavy pages a snap.

Why press '/'...?

Just start typing... :)

I think 1.5 has been out for awhile, as i have been running it for about 1 week. But you could only get it from the beta site.

Wow, I didn't even know that. I've only been using Firefox regularly for like 3 days now. Thanks for the tip!

I thought 1.5 was supposed to have aqua buttons and controls?

Firefox is nice, but I still like Safari better because of the built-in dictionary and spell-checker.

I'm not trying to be contentious or inflamatory here, but I'm genuinely interested to understand what the differences are that make Firefox better than Safari. I'm a recent switcher and pretty ignorant of the finer details, but so far, Safari has been fine, except for the slight delay in loading pages. It handles all the graphics ok, all the plugins seem to function correctly, and the interface is pretty nice after IE on XP. Is there a compelling reason to go FF instead?

Thanks for your help! :)

The ctrl-cmd-D Dictonary lookup is now the only thing I miss from Safari...

SpellBound takes care of spelling, and I've learned how to make search engines (to replace AcidSearch and Dictionary search gives me a possibility to search some websites with marked words from the context menu, I just don't use it for any Dictionary sites ;)) and I use Vienna for RSS (cannot stand FF's live bookmarks). Adblock takes care of those annoying flash-ads without having to browse with plugins off (like I did in Safari).

I like many things about it but some of them:
Its fast. I can add things. change how it looks.
This is just some of the reasons. O and since I am on 10.3 I would need to put up with Safari 1. And Firefox is way better then Safari 1!

EDIT: and i like being able to just type to search for something
