I just downloaded Firefox last night, and i have noticed that it is considerably faster than Safari. Am i crazy, or is there something that explains this?

Um... it's faster code? Apparently it's down to the renderer, whatever that is. I like the compatibility and speed of Firefox, but not it's 'PC-ness' which jars with other OS X apps.

yeah, FireFox if faster than safari.

to boost safari's speed you can look for an app called safarispeed. :)

If you really want to see speed, go for one of the optimised builds of Camino. Same rendering engine as Firefox, but much more Mac-like.

Seconded. I almost eclusively use Camino, despite those figures quoted, I have always found it boots faster and responds much quicker than Safari and since I got my Mac when Firefox was not universal, it was much faster than that too. May have changed a little, but in theory it should still be faster than Firefox, and I use Safari at times at work and it appears to stilll be zippier than that.

Safari is definately faster for me. Firefox is just not OSX material at least in PPC platform.....for me anyways

Safari on my PowerPC Macs appears much faster than both FireFox and Camino - and displays pages more accurately as well.

Safari has always been faster for me...but granted it's not nearly fast enough. It has come a long way but it needs some work still.

If you use the latest dev of WebKit for Safari its much faster at rendering. Of course its less stable to boot.

Check out the all new .7 Flock. Its amazing, really polished it off well, so I can finally use it.

I wonder how fast it is compared to these other ones.

what about shiira? i use it mainly for the sexy dock icon, but how does it measure up to the other browsers?

I am playing with Firefox 2.0b1 today, and I have to say that it's a much better performer than previous releases. In particular, the interface lag problem seems to be fixed. The interface bits are still distractingly non-native, but there is a definite improvement.

Last night was really strange, safari loaded pages about 4 times as quick as firefox. Firefox was acting really sluggish..

safari has always been faster for me, i'd never use anything elce, mainly for the interface and the lack of annoying pointless warnings.

but safari doesn't have tabbed browsing does it?
Yes! Turn it on in Safari-->Preferences-->Tabs. I dont even have a Mac (yet) and I know that!
