the fact that the screen quality is that noticeable is promising. have a strong feeling this device will actually match the hype. he doesn't even have the 16gb model!
How do we know he didn’t edit the video to make the blacks appear to be more black than they really are. ?‍♂️

Bro, apple gets hated so much. If at all he’d make the blacks less black to get more views.
Possibility, after seeing these top youtubers not call out green tint and yellow screens on the 12 series at launch, I’m not believing anything until some people on here give their verdict, or I see it with my own eyes.

So for 2018 11" owners it sounds like another dud like 2020 with nothing new but 'slightly faster' (the one thing it doesn't need)

Is Apple giving up?
Now i’m glad that I canceled this new update over my 2020 iPad Pro. Nothing really good about this over what I have already. Waiting for the WWDC results which I think our 2020 Pro will work just fine with. Yes, the Screen is good, but the screen on my current one is fine by me. Now waiting for the 14 inch MacBook Pro

until WWDC and fall 2021 when the apps are coming that will work a lot better with 8gb ram....
ipad pros with 6gb will be still fine, but those with 4...will have to upgrade..
Just guessing here..but affinity photo app has some hiccups on the 4gb ram 10.5" ipp vs the 2020 model
I think this is just an assumption. I don’t think Apple is going to fracture iPadOS in to a Pro version and non-Pro version. Apple will need to support at least 3GB of RAM 2019 iPad Air and the several years of iPad Pros which have plenty of horsepower to run the apps. The RAM increase in the iPad Pro in my opinion is more a consequence of using the M1 and less Apple suddenly making the iPad Pro a much more capable device. I think a lot of people forget that the 2018 iPad Pro with A12X was such a monumental leap in processing power but iPadOS still did nothing to take advantage of that power. Even last years minor RAM bump was plenty combined with the A12Z but still, no new Pro apps. That may change with the M1 and significant RAM increase but I think you will only see a small handful of apps that will be optimized to run on the new iPad Pro with that RAM. I’ve said this before but the A12X was already beating the 2018 15” MacBook Pro in many benchmarks and video exporting, even with its measly 4GB of RAM.

I am rejuvenated in my confidence this is my Laptop, Tablet, TV Replacement OLED like colors deep rich blacks. And over 50% Faster than my 2018 iPad Pro.

I wouldn’t mind seeing side by side with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ because that’s a 12.4” 10-bit AMOLED 120hz Display Vs. the 12.9” 120hz 8-bit XDR Display.

8-bit mini-led XDR Vs. 10-bit AMOLED

my money is on AMOLED

It would be interesting side-by-side. I'd want the S7+ color toned down from its standard over-saturated look to more natural, close to the iPad's display.

So is this person a YouTuber or a member of the media ?

Aren't the press/media/YT supposed to get their evaluation units from Apple earlier than the public and then the embargo lifts on 5/19 ??

No, he bought commercial. It appears that people who bought from NFM got early deliveries. Here -

Clicking through the reddit post I can't help but to wonder of how many Apple employees are following his posts... I mean, you all darn well know this is all over Apples radar, the fact that this retailer delivered so early and that this random guy on Reddit has a product at his disposal a week before anyone else.

Just makes me chuckle to think of Tim Cook himself (not kidding, I'm sure he knows about the Reddit post) is scrolling through seeing what "CrunchyDildo69420" has to ask PeterDragon50 regarding their newest technology lol.

Either due to stock constraints, or more likely strategic!
They now want more people to buy the 12.9 inch one. And next version they will bring it back to the 11-inch so that people who want both portability and the mini LED screen will buy again.

It’s not Apple that’s going to fracture iPadOS, it’s going to be the developers. At some point… developers have to push their software forward. There will be features designed to only work on 2021 iPad Pros.

I think a lot of people forget that the 2018 iPad Pro with A12X was such a monumental leap in processing power but iPadOS still did nothing to take advantage of that power. Even last years minor RAM bump was plenty combined with the A12Z but still, no new Pro apps.
We all are aware that 2018 iPad Pros was not much of a difference to 2020 iPad Pros. I would think a small percentage of 2018 iPad Pro users upgraded to 2020 iPad Pros. No new pro apps came out of that… because the specs wasn’t a major upgrade.

That may change with the M1 and significant RAM increase but I think you will only see a small handful of apps that will be optimized to run on the new iPad Pro with that RAM.
I don’t think it’s going to be a small handful of apps… the iPad ecosystem is quite huge, you gotta think about… that’s why users gravitate toward the iPad, because of the app ecosystem. I won’t assume I know Apple’s roadmap. But we are just speculating here. But, it appears that Apple has been pushing the iPad to get to this point. Bringing the Apple silicon to the Mac… to help Mac developers code desktop-class apps. And now, the iPad and Mac share the same Apple silicon.

That all may well be the case. I’ve said many times I love my iPad Pro and iPadOS is enough for me as my sole computer were it not for school requirements. With that said, the multitasking isn’t there with iPadOS, and even more mundane tasks like using the Microsoft Office apps are painful on iPadOS vs macOS. That could very well change now. I also wonder if the pro apps never came to iPadOS because the RAM was fairly limited. That’s not the case now. I would just like to see iPadOS mature to a point where it’s as fully functional as macOS, especially since the hardware is completely there and there’s outstanding accessories available like the Magic Keyboard etc. I’m hoping there is some big plans for iPadOS 15, but regardless, I love my current set up with my 2018 12.9 as my note taking/consumption machine, love my new M1 MBA, and I still use my iPad Pro 10.5 which still runs fast. (My office is a bit of a mess…reorganizing)

Sweet set up! I can't go back to the Mac... I've had iMac, Mac Mini.. various MBs. Perhaps, I'm fascinated by the touch aspect of the iPad. I can just get up and go. WWDC can't come fast enough... I'm not sure which I'm most anxious for... WWDC or the new iPad Pro.

I like seeing people's setups. :) Nice @GuruZac!

Here's my dream setup (in the next year)... replace my 2018 11" Pro with 2021 12.9" Pro, buy a new iPad Mini (if it looks like Pro/Air, I'm done w/bezels), and then pick up an M1 or M2 MacBook Air for software development (or 14" MBP M1, still waiting on that).

12.9" for home digital art, sketching, etc, Mini for traveling, light novel reading, 14" MBP/Air for software development.

Thanks! Yeah I’m looking forward to WWDC and iPadOS 15. I think all of us are.

The blooming will be mostly visible when there is white/black boarder (like subtitles) or stars at night.

I'm expecting Apple to do a very good job and the blooming won't be too bad but there will be specific situations where I know we will have blooming effect. There is just not enough dimming zones to avoid it.

I'm excited that Apple went with Mini LED and not OLED as I truly don't like OLED. Its flawed tech on so many levels.
This should be the perfect solution whilst we wait for MicroLED in 5 or so years :)

When I zoomed into the black spot of this screenshot on my amoled Tab S5e and S7 edge, it was pure black with the screen turned off. XDR looks really promising, no considerable blooming around the edges either.
