First Impressions of Apple In-Ear Headphones

Well, I wish they did sound like what's written on their website but honestly this seem to be a sales ploy by Apple because they certainly lack big punchy detailed bass unlike my excellent Sennheiser CX300 phones

oh really? i have the Sennheiser CS300's aswell and they are superb for me! i am a drummer, i play along to music and use them for recording to help me keep time. maybe i wont invest in the apple ones..

i am a sennheiser supporter, and will use (if i can help it!) anything but their headphones. Im sure these headphones are decent, and for people that have no prior experiance with higher end headphones it will likely blow you away. But for the money, and brand security i would choose sennheiser for headphones. (yes i know there are better brands than sennheiser, but i mean with-in reasonable price!)

If you really want a superb Sennheiser in-ear monitor (IEM) headphone, go get the high-end IE 6, IE 7 or IE 8 models (and no, it has nothing to do with Internet Explorer! ). The only downside is the price: the current pricing on Amazon.com is US$229 for IE 6, US$285 for IE 7 and US$449 for IE 8. At those nosebleed prices I might as well get the Futuresonics Atrio M5 at US$180 from Amazon.

Yeah, the Apple in-ear Headphones seem to have really been a waste of money and hopefully Argos will take them back

Today I went into my local Carphone Warehouse and bought the Griffith SmartTalk which only cost me £12.99 (thats £41.01 cheaper than those Apple phones and the mic on the SmartTalk is just as good if not better than the mic on the Apple in ear Heaphones. Also I can plug in the Sennheiser CX300 into the SmartTalk and record audio on BeatMaker on my iPod Touch and hear the music the way it should be without the tinnyness, lifeless sound and terrible distortion of the Apple in ear Headphones.

To anyone thinking of buying the Apple Headphones AVOID!!!

Does anyone think the next iPhone software update will enable the volume controls etc?

I'd like to get some better headphones than what came with the iPhone 3g but for $79 (I'm poor) I'd like to have a little increased functionality too.

how do these compare to the skullcandy in-ear headphones? I have used the skullcandies and i have been very impressed, but how do the apple ones shape up

If you like skullcandies, you will absolutely hate these. Skullcandies have tonnes of bass and a little mids and treble. These have tonnes of treble and mids and very little bass.

Very true! I had a pair of apple ones for my iPod. They were rubbish! Get skullcandies. I live in Britain and when I went to America I bought them from target at around $16.

It's a shame.
There is so much potential with these.
When they are in properly inserted, the sound is fantastic to me.

But I have huge problems with the following:

The earbuds would be best described as ear repellents.
I have tried two of the sizes and as soon as I put them in my ear, they have a single goal, to pop out of your ear as soon as possible.

The cord is woefully short. It seems no matter how I hold the ipod or iPhone, I am always being tugged which helps the coming out of my ear issue.
For an earphone that is designed to be worn in-ear, a short cord confounds me. How much more would it cost Apple to add 3 more inches?

A minor thing that bugs me, those earbuds are like fishing hooks, it hooks on everything.

All of those problems could have been fixed with some testing but I think Apple is more concerned about surprising everyone and keeps it secret. I guess the only people who test it are the 5 foot geeks at Cupertino.
