Again how? My MBA will not run 720/1080p smoothly no matter what i do, it's annoying!

You're running it inside of a browser then. If you run it outside of a browser, it does the job just fine. The problem isn't Adobe's when it comes to Flash either. Apple has withheld access to the APIs for h.264 hardware acceleration. With the newest Flash 10.1 builds, it's much better. In addition, all HD playback apps should be updated as Apple finally opened up h.264 API access a month or so ago.

Also, it's assuming you have a v 2,1 MBA. The Intel GMA isn't going to use h.264 nor OpenGL and provide a superior experience. BTW, what display are you sending your 1080p signal to?

Anyone that wants to blame Adobe needs to install Windows 7 on their MBA and see just how liable Adobe is. The MBA's hardware is PERFECTLY capable if OS X is taken out of the equation. Microsoft has given Windows users by far the best graphics system advancements, drivers, and OpenGL. Windows proves that HD isn't a problem and neither is Adobe's Flash as either run absolutely perfectly on my MBA in Windows 7. People need to put the blame where it's due, on Apple for not wanting it's users to have an incredible experience and blocking access to hardware that would provide a better user experience for OS X users.

Yes, MacBook Air can do those things just fine. Keep in mind that MacBook is cheaper, faster and has twice as good battery, not forgetting an extra USB too. Low-end MacBook Air also has 4200rpm hard drive which is painfully slow thus if you can, get the high-end MBA with SSD.

Currently, I don't find MBA being a good deal so personally, I would either wait for an update or get a MacBook (Pro)

Yeah I'm kinda holding out for an update, it'd be my first Mac too.

The trouble is I know the pro might be the better option (although my concern is mostly RAM) but my god is the air gorgeous and if I'm going to pay massively over the odds for a laptop (and even the pro is massively overpriced compared to normal laptops) then I'm damn well getting the pretty one.

You and I have fallen in love with the MBA for exactly the same reasons. No laptop ever made was as gorgeous, and its light weight, 3 pounds, is damned near miraculous. Nevertheless, I would never recommend that any prospective entrant into the Mac laptop world buy an MBA as his first computer right now.

Even if the MBA is updated with 4Gb of RAM, a faster chip and better graphics, I would still think carefully before passing over the excellent 13 inch MBP. Even if you added an SSD to a base MBP it would still cost less than the SSD equipped MBA. If you wanted to go all out you could upgrade its RAM to 8Gb for less than $300. It would be a close call, though.

I also recommend against getting an MBA as a first Mac laptop, ESPECIALLY if it gets updated with more RAM, bigger SSD, and dare I say optimized drivers (especially for graphics)...you would be so spoiled by the experience that you'll never look at notebooks the same way again, and as a result wouldn't be able to go back to any other "ordinary" ultra-portable mobile computer! :p

Although I have owned various Apple products over the years, the MBA was my first "Mac". At the time I purchased it I was looking for the equivalent of a 13" MBP (which wasn't available yet...lol, I still remember the look on the Apple employee's face when I suggested that they should make such a model), and almost bought the 15" MBP, and after deciding it was just too big, the high end MB. But after playing around with the MBA at the Apple store, I couldn't stop thinking about how much I liked the aesthetic design, and knew I would not be happy unless I had one. In retrospect, one of the best decisions I've ever made, since it has become my favorite laptop, dethroning my Voodoo Envy and Sony Vaio Z, which are currently gathering dust. In fact, I even stopped using my desktop (custom built PC) due to the wonderful "Mac experience" my Air provides. Of course, everyone's "wants" and "needs" are different, so take my experience with a grain of salt! ;)
