First possible iPhone equal....

So I was watching a demo of the HTC passion aka "snapdragon" on Youtube and I am very impressed. It's quick, apps, fluid, great looking screen, nice size. Of all the phones out and upcoming, this looks to be the one that may compete the best.

Thoughts?
 
2 years later and XX,XXX attempts, they finally almost have a worthy competitor?

I agree competition is good but keep in mind, we are not too far away from the 4G iPhone which will hopefully send the other guys back to the drawing boards.
 
No single phone will outsell the iPhone. It's all about the operating system. The snapdragon potentially running Android has all the potential to be way better than the iPhone, but will still never outsell it. Nobody can have as many fanboys as Apple does.

And yes, I know, snapdragon runs Windows. Just talking about potentials here.
 
I've seen and heard nothing about this phone yet, so I'll be keeping an eye out for videos, etc of it.
How many devices have HTC released recently? I've totally lost count.
 
Regardless of the name, the device looks up to par. I am very impressed. Apple needs to give us something new within a new device or software. With phones going Android and people creating these cool UIs is leaving the iPhone behind. The interface right now on that HTC crushes the iPhone. Apple just needs to go ahead and employ Jay Freeman, Saurik, and take the iPhone to a whole new level. Put Android even farther behind. I so dont wanna leave iPhone, but this HTC has my interest.

No doubt in my mind: Andrioid has potential, and Apple needs to take at least an interest in it, because I see it because a formidble foe when it matures.

My company is developing apps for the iPhone and the Android. We see Android becoming quite a force.

However Snapdragon is the dumbest f***ing name ever.

Isn't that obvious? Why would someone write something that isn't their opinion?

Do we really need to say that at the start of every post? And if so, could Macrumors just automate that so it happens all by itself every time we post?
 
They all may be great, but the iphone has the app store which is what's going to keep a lot of people, like myself.

So many GREAT apps to use for work/play.

My company has an iPhone app that's doing rather well. There will never be an app source better than the appstore. At this point, too many people have joined the team on this. I truly believe that.

Also, I'm not sure if you have seen the HTC HD2, but that looks like an incredible device that, in some cases, in my opinon, of course, trumps the iPhone. There are some video reviews and side by side comparisons of the iPhone on YouTube and it is a true competitor.
 
The HD2 is the new version of the Hero that Sprint has, correct? It's running Android 2 in addition to other nice new features. I like what i'm seeing from HTC.

No, HD2 is a different device entirely, is out in Europe around now but has yet to arrive in the States. I believe it is due to come to AT+T. None of the HTC devices are currently running Android 2, they are all running 1.6 although I'm sure that will change soon.

It's actually the new version of the "HD". It runs on WinMo 6.5 with "HTC Sense" the HTC Sense is the key. Finger friendly and HTC'd out. Here is the specs via HTC: http://www.htc.com/europe/product/hd2/specification.html

Supposedly it will be available early 2010 in the U.S. on an unknown carrier.

We're what, 2 weeks past the droid launch and already starting this again? :rolleyes:

I don't see android as having the potential a lot of people think. It has a fragmentation problem, a branding problem, and a geekiness problem, and as far as I can tell, none of those things are going away. I'm not saying there aren't and won't be good android phones, but I don't see it ever having the iphone's mainstream appeal unless things change on a more fundamental level than just HTC or motorola releasing yet another highly specced android phone.

Which means it definitely won't come close to being an equal to even Android, much less the iPhone.

I've used several versions of WinMo prior to the iPhone, and have looked occasionally at them since, from time to time. I have never been impressed. They just don't get mobiles.
 
Just because is has WinMo on it now doesn't mean it won't run Android later. That's a euro version. HTC can put whatever OS on it that they want. With their partnership in Android and the new love for Android in the states, I would imagine they will make an American version running Android.
 
It's shame too, because physically the device is a pretty attractive piece of hardware. A bit large, but for HTC, it's really well put together. It would be worth a look if only it ran Android. Probably still not as good as an iPhone, but I would rate this hardware with Android 2.0 as probably better than the Droid.

The ironic thing is, the HD2 basically is Windows Mobile trying really hard to look like Android. Sooo... why even use WinMo?

It's also kinda sad that 1GHz processor is required to match the smoothness of other mobile operating systems. A testament to the amazing bloat of Windows Mobile.
