OK and? Within warranty $199 to have Apple replace it. Outside of warranty look into repairing it yourself or paying full price for another. GL.

Those 199 reasons suck, but it could be a WHOLE lot more than that to pay full retail price. I'd think twice about letting your next phone go naked.

is that another iphone i see in the reflection of the broken iphone

Yes, my brother's 3G.

Bummer mate, how did you do it?

Fell from my pocket when I was getting out of my car.

-.-.-

Mind you all, this is my 3GS phone. What surprises me the most is that my 1st Gen fell so many times and yet never cracked the screen. My 1st Gen fell from heights higher than the one this one fell. Mind you that 1st Gen even fell flat on screen size 3 times and only a minute scratch. This one, fell side ways and there ya go.

I think it's a general consensus that a side fall is the worst.

Worst thing is, I will get a refurb or new one (I don't care about this) with 3.1.2 or 3.1.0, but my current 3GS is unlocked.

I will loose the unlock because of the new baseband.

Where are you at jav? I can't speak for all Apple stores, but I know the one I frequent in Brea, CA offers screen replacement. Might be cheaper and you'll get to keep your unlock.

Ouch, sorry that it happened. Given your description of how many times your 1st gen iPhone fell, you definitely need to be more careful with your iPhone.

Yeah I know. My 1st gen fell so much because I had for 2 years, so it has quite a history, but this one is the 2nd time its ever fallen.

That makes me more uneasy/madder.

You could walk and probably be back by Halloween.

That's if a coyote doesn't eat me on the way there.

Hey man not to give false hope cause I think this is a long shot.

My best friend went into the apple store after I assured him they would charge $199 for the screen fix on his 3G still under warranty. The Genius said they do not cover that kind of damage (his screen damage was worse than yours) but after she looked into tall the ports and checked it all out she said 'I have found another issue with your phone and we are going to cover it under the warranty' she gave him a new(refurbished of course) iphone!

When he told me this (3 weeks ago now) I didn't believe a word he was saying. Then I saw the scratch free iphone, he doesn't use a case either and make fun of me for keeping mine in the otterbox (he calls it a tank), and was so mad that he got a new one! Mad cause now he still makes fun of my cases, even though it is now the commuter case not the defender.

Anyway I would say cross your fingers and ask them about the battery and other things to see if it could be covered under another fault that it has, but that would mean you will have to jail your phone back up.

Either way good luck

I was planning on going full honest. Tell them it fell and would like a repair. I tend not deceive Geniuses because I respect Apple as a company and the warranty they give.

I hear you on that. I dropped my 2G from about 5 feet onto a concrete walkway, while running, and it barely had a ding in the corner. That thing was a tank!

I dropped my 3G in the driveway several months back from about a foot and the glass completely shattered.

put it on Ebay

or just order new glass a DIY lots of youtubes on it. but it will still fetch a decent price on ebay. then buy a new pretty 3GS gl! bummer man

Thats because the first gen is a tank. :D

Sorry about your luck brother. :(
