Did you view the links I gave you? I found an OEM Glass, LCD, Home Button, Speaker assembly for only $115 on eBay.

It's a quick job with almost 0% chance of breaking anything. It's like changing RAM in a computer. Snap off... snap on. Done.

Also, the assembly comes with all the tools.

You seriously can't compare this to changing RAM? When pulling the iPhone apart there is a very real chance of breaking a connector if you're not careful and the two pieces come apart too quickly.

Really? Foxconn sells on eBay? Seriously, the only part of the Internet that I can trust for OEM iPhone parts are Apple and ifixit (due to their DIY history). I wouldn't trust eBay OEM iPhone parts sale at all. That's a risk not worth taking.

Also 0% chance of screw up? Are you an expert? Like iphone.aggie said before me, things in the iPhone are extra fragile and one small pull or light jag can break two pieces off. Just read ifixit commentors. Many of them have problems after DIY screen repair, it's just that easy to screw up. Also, these people took their time not to screw up and it still happened.

Yeah I know. My 1st gen fell so much because I had for 2 years, so it has quite a history, but this one is the 2nd time its ever fallen.

That makes me more uneasy/madder.

That's if a coyote doesn't eat me on the way there.

Sorry to hear...that does stink. Since dropping seems to be your MO - maybe pick up one of these.

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

I've taken my screen off 10 times already. Never had a problem.

Update on my iPhone. Seems GPS has gone haywire. It refuses to lock in whenever it needs to. After 5 tries of waiting 20 minutes for it to lock in. At first it locked it, then would not keep up woth my location, instead it went to Wi-Fi circle. Sometimes, at best, I just get the Wi-Fi approached blue circle or Cell triangulation. I don't get the consistent blinking blue dot.

I'll try reseting network settings see were that takes me.

Besides that was probably the same phone. Each one may be a little different. Anyway, it is the first time that is the hardest.

I took apart 2 other iPhone 3G's as well. Still good.

I'm not an expert at repairing iPhones… the iPhone 3G is stupidly easy to remove the screen on. It's really ridiculously easy.

Update on the GPS problems. I just took a walk (a good walk) around the block. The iPhone's GPS simply could not pin point me down. At times it locked and then sticked there for a deal of time before unlocking and doing the wide radius wi-fi circle. Around the area where I truly was. After that it'd revert back to the GPS lock, but waaay behind me. At one point it went side by side only to loose the lock with a small turn I took.

GPS keeps acting up. It won't keep up. I am definitely calling Apple tomorrow.

More updates.

I compared my 3GS to my brother's 3G. I used the GPS lock on both phones and walked the same distance. My 3GS's GPS lock kept jumping back and forth and putting me in the middle of the road or buildings. Also, it was always behind me and never kept the GPS lock, it varied from GPS to wi-fi lock.

My brother's 3G GPS lock kept dead on. It followed where I went.

This was a side by side comparison on a clear New Orleans night. Yep, Apple is getting a call from me.

That's why your iPhone has so many problems.

Better check with Apple. Something isn't right with your GPS chip.

Came back from appointment. The Genius said he'd swap phones. He did and I got a new 3GS. I immediately checked the serial and saw it started in 5Kxxxxxx. I said to myself, "Hmmm, a refurb" the Genius jumped and said that's not a refurb and that it was a new iPhone. Obviously I know all iPhones that start in 5K... are refurbs so I decided not to go on, but gladly accept the new phone.

GPS works now. Also, diagnostics said that the guy who did the repair nicked the GPS cable off and left it connected by a thread which explained the inconsistent behavior.

PS - It had 3.1.0 on it, so still, no unlock for me....
