True Tone does a great job keeping the OLED harsh bright screen from being taxing and tiring on my eyes. I appreciate and understand that to see a color photograph with True colors, I should turn it off. Not often I care to turn it off.
Don't know about iPhones (never had one with True Tone), but I quite like it on my M1 Air. In the natural daylight the screen colors are cooler, and in the dimmer mixed light - they get warmer. It works just as advertised - mimicking the sheet of paper under changing lighting conditions. All the other "regular" screens now seem a bit off to me.
