Unfortunately, The Rominator will not be coming back so anyone looking for ROM mod requests will have to study this thread and netkas' site and try to do it themselves.

Very sad. :( How come?

I assume ROM modding requires well-directed tinkering with a hex editor, at least that's what the XYZ thing from Cidori's Golden Guide makes me think.

I'd be very grateful for instructions, maybe by Netkas? I think I can handle a hex editor, but dunno what to do exactly.

:confused::confused:

What happened to Rominator?? And WHY ???

Someone please speak up and enlighten us. He was/is an invaluable member of this community, and the the Mac Pro forum specifically.

everyone should read the Golden Guide in my signature. it's made with 4800 series cards on mind but it applies alot to 5800 series cards too. I'll update it when real 5800 flashing gets started.

zeus support for 5800 is not yet confirmed, likely no. will get support once apple releases it.

So Zeus workds with ATI 5700 already?
My 4890 doesnt support sleep, picture crashes after returning from sleep.

Thinking of replacing it with a 5770.

Regards
Claus

Click on PCI cards. This will tell if you have PCI-Express 1.1 or 2.0 after flashing.

Seems to be 1.1. GPU-Z in windows seemed to indicate this too.

To be honest, I'm not that fussed... this machine's main use is development, and TF2 runs at full res with maxed out settings at 60fps with vsync without problems.

succes ati saphire hd 5770

I have success with this card:

http://www.pccomponentes.com/fotos/...express/sapphire_radeon_hd_5770_1gb_gddr5.jpg

On a Mac pro 4,1..Booted from lastest version of The Ultimate Boot CD ( 5.0.2) + Atiflash + Saphire_vanilla.rom

This command: atiflash -p 0 Saphire_vanilla.rom -f

Screen show only when os x booted completely.

Performance: Not much like original GT120 OEM at the moment?may be better with Mac pro 5770 ROM + original 5770 pc rom to create custom hybrid rom.

Thanx Netkas !!?

Do I get this right that flashed radeons 5X70 show no boot screen before the OS X desktop?
In that case the flashing procedure would be less than interesting to me... Might as well spend more $$ on an Apple card.

Darn, these new radeons are hard to flash. And the Mac Pro EBC ROM doesn't work on PC cards yet.

Best of luck getting an apple card... I'm in Aus and the best they could give me was "sometime this year", meanwhile my machine was without a display card... I was having to RDC into it...

My first post here on MacRumors, so I'd like to say a big hello to everyone and give my big compliments to such an active Mac comunity, in particular, Netkas, Rominator and Cindori for all their work and dedication they have put into hacking away those roms and graphic cards into acceptable price options (read: being able to flash PC cards into Mac compatible/usable ones).

Anyhow, I was just wondering, would flashing a 5870 with Netkas currently available rom void any chances of being able to flash with a proper Mac 5870 card rom once this becomes available ?

I see that there are already at least 1 or more members here in MacRumors with the 5870, but so far haven't shared that precious ROM, I'll be more that glad to provide ftp space if needed :)

It's hard to see a Shapphire 5870 card I bought for a nice price, "collecting dust" as I wait for a final rom :(

Cheers!

I'm waiting for the Apple card, so I'm not following closely the flashing efforts (so I might be corrected shortly), but my understanding is that the Apple ROM won't work on a PC 5870 because there isn't enough space on the card.

But in theory, no, if they got the Apple ROM to work you could reflash with that at any point. But to be safe, at this point, I would wait for them to get it worked out, or wait for the Apple card. There is a chance the Apple ROM won't flash to the PC version ever.

Unfortunately it's not the only reason. Actually, the Apple ROM is 128 KB so it would fit in a PC card as is. But some PC cards somehow have a BIOS section that is larger than Apple's, so they can't accommodate the EFI (EBC part). Other however have enough space, but they don't work after the EBC is added. No solution yet.
