Hello fellow iPad owners,

After the initial rush of buying/using an iPad, it got kind of dull. Not a lot of great apps for me to try, nothing interesting other then the same old same old. Browse web, swipe, tap tap, kill some zombies etc.

A new app was released today named Flipboard. It's essentially a social networking magazine. It groups all of your favorite social networks (so far just Facebook/Twitter) and other news feeds available through them and sorts it out very, very sexily into a magazine-esque view.

This has honestly made me go back to using my iPad. With a gorgeous UI and easily accessible news/social media I can now in confidence say I don't regret purchasing my iPad.

Best of all, it's FREE for the app! Thoughts?

Your invalid criticisms of the iPad make me even more suspicious of your subsequent advertising-like praise of Flipboard.

I completely agree (except with the part that the iPad experience had become dull). Flipboard is possibly the best non-game application that I have downloaded from the app store. I have a twitter account that I had never used, but because of how perfectly Flipboard presents the tweets (and all other news) I have become a frequent user now. I just wish there were more categories available. If big-time magazines and newspapers begin providing their own content for this app (I remain very doubtful that this will ever happen) then I will be in heaven. I'm still waiting for them to allow me to use the Facebook integration though.

I wasn't criticizing anything, I simply felt the iPad felt like the same old same old, to me. I couldn't find any apps of interest and all I really did was browse the web/play games.

Flipboard makes me feel more involved with my iPad with an experience I cannot find on a regular computer and I hope more apps like it come around.

I know what you mean but, I think the 'dullness' you are referring to is just you coming out of the honeymoon period of buying a device like the iPad.

As for Flipboard, I read about it on a few site that I frequent so I downloaded it to check it out and to be honest I'm underwhelmed. The UI is not that nice really and the font that they use is horrible. The inability to add proper RSS feeds rather than the feeds that they chose is annoying as well. All hype if you ask me. Its not that great or interesting. I much prefer Reeder.

That's because Flipboard isn't supposed to be a RSS reader, it's supposed to be for other internet sources: Twitter, Facebook, Flickr (in the future), etc. There are plenty of RSS readers around.

I'm loving it. I don't use Twitter much, but have a bunch of local sport writers and players followed. The resulting page is pretty awesome and made me rethink my Twitter use.

I went in last night and followed and unfollowed a bunch of people and the results are pretty good. Looking forward to seeing how my personal news page progresses.

I think creating Twitter lists is the way to go. I'm going to create lists for the type of content I want to follow, then I will follow those people who link to the best content.

Once digg releases v4' hopefully Flipboard will integrate it and I think that will be the best way to discover news through a social network. right now there are too many tweets that don't contain links to other content, which isn't great when viewed in Flipboard.

Your inability to recognize the potential validity of his criticisms in regards to the iPad negate any solidity that your suspicions may have had. Your personal views of your iPad have skewed your ability to reason and see the potential disappointment one could experience after purchasing a magical device that was said to change everything, yet is far from magical and still quite similar.

Your inability to affirm that his criticisms possess higher than a merely potential validity, your inability to recognize that suspicions, by there very own nature, may not be solid, and that is why I called them suspicions, and your inability to perceive that to deny the validity of a person's criticisms of the iPad does not mean that I even like the iPad, although I may disagree with the criticisms, and your failure to mention one of the main factors of my suspicions, which is the way he praises the Flipboard, make me harbor the slightly more solid suspicion that you are STUPID, and that you need to go back to school for another 10 years before you try to argue with me. Bye.

Wow you just called somebody stupid on the internet? Congrats, that is a big win for you. I am sorry that I was able to determine your ownership of an iPad based upon your unfortunate response to what you took as an insult to your cherished device. It is sad that you would take such a comment from me that was intended to be light hearted and interpret it in a way that made you lash out as you did towards me. I am sorry that my words got to you in such a manner. So that you are aware, I in fact do agree with your statement regarding his original post and how seems to be a bit heavy on the marketing side of things. I did not feel the need to coddle you and let you know that I agree with you in my original comment. In the future I will be more likely to reaffirm your positive notes so that you do not get your feelings hurt. I am sorry for not being more considerate of your feelings. Seventy percent of the time when a person lashes out in such a manner it is due to their feelings being hurt. It is okay and I take no offense as it is a natural reaction to insecurities.

For the record, I apologize for my obvious lack of education and I truly hope we can smooth this over.

Good day.

I agree with the dull part, not necessarily dull in a bad way, but the magic is certainly gone. Hopefully the app developers will start focusing on the iPad again once it gets iOS4.

Good day.

This post made my Sarcasm-O-Meter's needle slam against the peg. Repeatedly. :D

Too bad we can't even register our Twitter/Facebook accounts right now. I'm really looking forward to using it.

It was not meant to be a name-calling tactic, or to win anything, but it was a description.

I am sorry that I was able to determine your ownership of an iPad based upon your unfortunate response to what you took as an insult to your cherished device.

This is an invalid inference. For example, I do not own an Android device, but I have used it, and I would also disagree with invalid criticisms against it.

I do own an iPad, but I do not consider it a cherished device.

It is sad that you would take such a comment from me that was intended to be light hearted and interpret it in a way that made you lash out as you did towards me. I am sorry that my words got to you in such a manner.

Perhaps my response was also light-hearted?

So that you are aware, I in fact do agree with your statement regarding his original post and how seems to be a bit heavy on the marketing side of things.

OK.

I did not feel the need to coddle you and let you know that I agree with you in my original comment.

Evidently, I did not feel the need to coddle you either. However, a clear response that addresses all relevant sides of a matter is different from coddling.

In the future I will be more likely to reaffirm your positive notes so that you do not get your feelings hurt. I am sorry for not being more considerate of your feelings.

I suspect that it is you who got your feelings hurt.

Seventy percent of the time when a person lashes out in such a manner it is due to their feelings being hurt. It is okay and I take no offense as it is a natural reaction to insecurities.

How did you obtain this figure? Another poster suggests that you are being sarcastic. Do you have a figure on the percentage of people who react with sarcasm without directly addressing the facts or logic of the points brought up because their feelings are hurt but they are still unable to squarely face the issue?

For the record, I apologize for my obvious lack of education and I truly hope we can smooth this over. Good day.

Thank you. I accept your apology. And if I have hurt your feelings and forced you to respond with sarcasm, I apologize as well. If you choose to respond, I will let you have the last word. Good day to you too.

*tiptoes into the fray*...

I like Flipboard. The only trouble I had was repeated sign-in attempts so I could link Twitter & Facebook. It finally worked, you just have to keep trying over and over. Now that it's linked, all is well, it looks amazing too!

I'm using a work iPad our dev team shares and they're going to have to break my fingers if they want the iPad back -- I've found Flipboard to be one of the best apps so far on it. Part of my job is digital magazine content so I was looking through Wired, Sports Illustrated, etc. I LOVE how Flipboard takes a different spin on it.

(And no, I don't work for Flipboard. But yes, now I'm really dying to buy an iPad worse than I was before) :)

Pulse is a great idea but it is a little clunky and slow when you fill it up with feeds. Love to try Flipboard but despite 2 days and maybe 50 attempts, I have not been able to link my FB or Twitter accounts.

ash =o)

Flipboard is fail since you can't actually add accounts. If they don't fix it soon I'm just going to uninstall it, which is what I imagine a lot of people are going to do.

Trying to sound smart in a run-on sentence where "their" is misspelled. Hilari-fail.

So what am I missing?

You can't link Twitter/Facebook and it only shows the first two paragraphs of each article?

Why didn't they just name it StumbleUpon Lite?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

I might use it, shame it does not support rss too as that's where most of my content comes from. I did read an interesting article about the devs (if I remember I will post a link when I get home) that suggested a subscription based future for the app allowing the debs to work alongside content providers.

You can't add accounts because their servers are jammed, which means that in fact it's not "fail" since it's becoming so popular.

I wish they completed the app fully before releasing. I got it for twitter and that's not available right now.
