Yeh, i really like Verdana, it's mile better than Arial!

I have also used it for a logo design for another potential company name.

Ok, verdana is not the only readible or legible font on the market. Lots of fonts are legible. Verdana is not a good typeface. I agree, that it doesn't work in this situation, and someone who is advertising design services should atleast look into a better typeface. I just don't understand the use of a system font that is HIGHLY used on the web in a print ad as a logo. There are thousands upon thousands of much better san serifs out there. Choosing a typeface is not some random act that is soley based on legibility. It is an art in it's self.

It can have it's places, but to be completely honest with you, i could probably think of 20 better typfaces you could've use there, and would have had better results.

Your original post didn't sound like that though, it sounded more along the line of the op should be doing some fancy swirly thing

As to the post about arial - I like arial and in the right context it can work well, my business logo uses a combination of a narrow and bold arial and everyone who has seen it says it works well in conjunction with the really simple graphics it uses.

So different fonts work well in different places, yeh i could of chosen a better one for the flyer, but i think verdana works well for the "TJM solutions" logo.

Tree

Tim,
If this is for a web design company, I would use this on your site as an animation. Leave the text at top and tree. "What Are You Missing?" should come into the left. As that happens your tree should bloom with leaves. Perhaps fall colors or whatever. Thus, the clients looking at you site, get the message. I would not bloom it too fast. Allow them to read the text "What Are You Missing?" first and then BLOOM. This to me is a better means to handle that image. Otherwise the puzzle is a better design for a flyer. Try it all as a campaign. Hope I have given all of you a better idea on this topic.

Verdana is fine for copy on the web. But as soon as you blow it up to any real size you come to realize just how butt ugly it is.

It shouldn't be used for logos at all.

Looks Amaturish

As a designer for 15 years I would have to say that all the samples I have seen
on this thread are very sub par & not much thought put to the campaign as a whole. It reeks of "Hi, I am 14 and i did this site last month for my class,
now I declare myself a designer!
I would suggest getting some Design, Typography & Marketing books from the library to study what successful designers In the industry have to teach you.
Looks like you are just grasping at concepts, & letting opinions here guide you.
If you are that insecure about your skills, to have to rely on web sites to grade it & make it better, I would consider going to design school.
Both pics also look like stock photos, not exactly 'Creative" IMO.
Just because you add a line of type on a stock photo doesn't make you a designer. The lack of a real logo is detrimental to a pro feeling campaign also.
One last thought, like others posted, A sans typeface, on a print flyer is a waste, when there are thousands of cool, funky, & interesting fonts out there to grab peoples attention.
Just my 5 cents worth.

you are sooo right "perkins"....it is people like this that get work calling themselves designers that hurts all the professional's out there!
I made a comment on a thread here a few months ago, I only said the truth, my opinion and was cruxified by the Polirally Correct jerks that infest this site....thank you for stating the truth....I am not alone!

that didn't make for a very good argument, i'm afraid.

Multicorrelation. It's not necessarily true that a person who cannot be bothered to write in complete sentences, use appropriate grammar, and make use of punctuation and capitalization in a manner at least vaguely concordant with accepted principles will also be a poor professional whatever-they-claim-to-be-professional-in. It's not necessarily true. But it usually is.

You concern me :) Verdana and Arial are free fonts that are designed to look readable, albeit not very attractive, on screen. Never use them for type for print! (Having said that, esure did for their old campaign - I don't know what they were thinking)

Try DIN, Helvetica Neue, Avenir, MetaPlus, Agenda, Gill Sans, Futura, Rotis, Cachet.

But please don't tell us you don't have any fonts! :p

What do you think of my flyer design?

It is for my web design company I am setting up.

Text speak is awful, no matter what the reason is... you should rather think about doing a normal abbreviation of the company name, ie. M-Design.com
or something similar. Long webadresses is one of the basic things to avoid in marketing.

Maybe think about a new name all together? The current name attracts my attention to something that is missing rather than to something that could be a solution for me and "my problem". Or in short... I dont think your company name offers me a solution....

I like the idea with the tree, it plays on something very instinctive, and I think you could still work from that premise.

Keep it up!

Nice pic. Concept is good and attractive. A watch without a face and a shoe without shoe laces are good ideas TheAtwookie you given here. Slogan is really very interesting.

always double, and triple check...

your spelling.

The last thing you want, as a designer, and especially as a business, is to have typos in YOUR advertising.

"somthing" is missing the "e" - should be "something" - Now, it is possible that you did that on purpose to reiterate the fact that something is missing, as in a play on words, but most people will initially just think that the word was misspelled and that could hurt you.

I'd say to spell it correctly and call it good.

What are you designing this in? Jw

I say dump the whole concept.
Start from scratch
Meaning thumbnails!!!
Drawing is the key to a gear work.
Do a bunch if different ideas then pull things you like from them and combine.

I think you should make use of negative space and make one s on missing actually missing. Or a diff front. Or something.
Play with the words first. Kern them to perfection.
Then go for artwork.
I would give more free ideas. But I'm a starving student and need them myself ;)
