Oh the whole the game does appear 'snappier'. Again, if you try and run 10 leagues at once then, yeah it will be slow, but running 2-3 should be fine.

If you want to run multiple leagues just to get access to more players there is an option to do that in the game configuration setup and that would make it faster.

I started a game running the five British Isles leagues, and it ran brilliantly on my MacBook – no complaints on that front here.

One gripe that might be a bit of a bug – it now asks you to appoint your captain and vice-captain for the upcoming season, with your assistant manager making his recommendations. However, I disagreed with his opinions and appointed by own skipper. My players all said that they approved of my choice and were looking forward playing with him, etc etc.

However, when I played my next match the old duffer that my assistant recommended was the default captain, and I can’t see any way to switch it! Curses!

Im trying to install it on my iBook but it won't go any further after I put in my password.

My spec is:
iBook
10.3.9
PowerPC G4 1.33GHz
256 MB

That's the minimum requirement in PowerBook/PowerMac.

Can I not install this at all on my iBook? I had FM2007 installed on here no problem and it has the same mimimum spec.

I read on the FM forums that some people were having installation problems... one possible explanation that was suggested was that files and stuff from previous versions – FM2007 or the demo, for example – that were on the user's hard drive were causing some kind of conflict.

Have you fully deleted all of the FM2007 stuff that was on your iBook – if not, that might be worth a try?

I usually indulge in FM around about Christmas time, just a short while before the January transfer window opens and everything becomes obsolete ;)

I picked up the game an hour ago, and haven't yet been able to play it. It installed fine, but when I try and start the game the dock icon bounces and disappears.

I tried starting it from Terminal, and I get a seg fault.

I've tried both an iMac w\ core duo, and a MacBook w\ core 2 duo... anyone had any luck with this game?

Cheers
Stuart

Check out the forums, I've been reading that a few Mac users have been having problems. Some have had success as Jaffa Cake mentioned by deleting the demo and its cache.

Can't play FM2008 yet on MacBookPro G4 1,5Ghz

I have the same problem, when i launch the game it icon bounces and the disapears. Can someone help?

As we say, the first thing to check is that all the files from any previous versions are deleted. Reading the Football Manager forums, a few people with the bouncing Dock issue are finding that their problem is solved by deleting the cache as pknz mentioned earlier.

What you need to do is make sure that FM2008 isn't running (which given your problem isn't very likely ;)), then take a look in your home folder. Work your way through Library/Caches/Sports Interactive/ and see if a folder called "Football Manager 2008" is in there. If there is, delete it and try launching the application again. Fingers crossed that might do the trick for you.

Let us know if this works!

This was very stupid of me to create an FM-thread in another topic... The 2007 game is absolutely great!!!! I love it. I'm getting it very soon.

I'm sorry to continue bothering you but it still doesn't work e have clean the cache as you say.... and nothing.

The CD of the game is original!

And in the terminal shows the following if it helps:

Following on from Neil's post yesterday about how we're planning to release the patch in the next couple of weeks, and because lots of people are having problems with the workaround for the closing down bug, and a couple of other long term bugs coming to our attention which we deem serious, we have decided to release a beta version of the patch in the next couple of days, which should solve these problems (and others).

This will also give people the chance to give feedback on said patch before we release it "officially" in a couple of weeks time.

As soon as this beta version of the patch is ready, we will unleash it.

For those who don't know what a "beta" is, it's basically a test version, and the same test version that we would be testing here before releasing.

We hope this appeases some of you who are unhappy, in particular with the closing down bug, and appreciate your patience.

Hmm a beta patch for the masses, hopefully this doesn't turn out like when they released FM (2005?) beta.

Hmm indeed... I've been lucky in so far that I'm running the game without any major problems so I think I might give the beta patch a miss and wait for the full fat version.

I'm sorry to continue bothering you but it still doesn't work e have clean the cache as you say.... and nothing.
No need to apologise, rmsf78 – it's just a pity that what we suggested didn't work for you.

Out of interest, which version of OS X do you have running?

Looking through the Football Manager forums, it does seem that a lot of people who are suffering from installation/launching problems are running 10.4.10 – some folk are wondering if there's an issue between that particular version of Tiger and FM2008...

Yup, they are both on the same disk. I think most of the files are the same, such as the player databases etc...

Not sure if this has anything to do with the installation problems.

The only problem I have is that it is alot harder than previous versions!

The fact that both versions are on the same CD surely wouldn’t cause the problems people have been having, though? Mind, I read that this version of the game apparently has several anti-piracy measures built in – I can’t help but wonder if some of the problems might be down to this. Hopefully this patch will get them sorted.

I had a few problems at first too, to me at least it does seem quite a bit harder – I think it depends on your tactical approach and whether it transfers itself well over to the new version or not. I experimented around a bit with the tactics though and my team’s performances have improved, so I’m happy with that.

What teams are folk playing as then? :p

Just started a game with Wycombe - I quite like trying to work my way up.

After a pretty awful pre-season (one draw, five losses and only goal scored), we haven't started too badly. Six or seven games in and I'm about seventh in the table, although I haven't had a win for a couple of games now.

I've managed to talk Matt Jansen into signing for the club, although the jury's still out as he never seems to be 100% fit for a game. He's been stuck on a heavy fitness training program.

Managed to bring in a couple of promising youngsters too that I have high hopes for :)

Should be it. That's the Operating System i'm using.
Just hope that the OSX Leopard launched today solve the problem.....

Well, I promised I'd share my thoughts on the game once I'd had a chance to have a decent play on it, so here we go.

Overall, not bad and I'm pretty pleased with it so far. I should qualify this of course by pointing out that there are quite a few people reporting bugs and installation problems, but it appears I've been lucky on that front as I didn't hit on any snags getting the thing going. Personally, I've found the game runs perfectly well on my Core 2 Duo MacBook, running 10.4.8.

There are some nice additions to the game. In addition to the changes R.Youden mentioned previously, there are more options for financial control which means that if – as I do – you enjoy the challenge of running a lower league club you can juggle the finances a bit more, useful when budgets are very limited.

Also, the 'confidence' feature is a good addition that I really liked – you're presented with bar charts by your board and supporters club showing at a glance how you're measuring up to their expectations. However, it looks like there are a few quirks to be ironed out because some of the opinions seem a little bizarre. For example, my new goalkeeper was proving a good signing – in his first six games he kept five clean sheets, only conceded a single goal and earned a couple of man of the match awards for his heroics. The fans confidence in him was shockingly bad though, they thought he was a poor signing and had no future at the club! There was also the instance where I – as a Blue Square North side – beat Newcastle 2-1 in a pre-season friendly... the fans weren't impressed at all with the result though, as they felt I hadn't created enough chances! Mind, we all know how fickle we football fans are so maybe it's not that unrealistic. ;)

The FaceGen pictures for game generated players and staff is also a great addition, even more so in that the pictures apparently age as the game progresses. Mind, I've not played long enough to see ageing occur so I'm taking the manufacturer's word for this. ;)

And one little thing that's been wrong for ages that they've finally sorted is that female staff members now have their gender reflected in news items (ie 'your physio mentions in her report...'). A very, very minor thing but one that always annoyed me that they hadn't sorted out. :p

There are a few niggles too. I've already mentioned the issue with confidence and I mentioned the problem with selecting captains in an earlier post, there have also been a few oddities with my opponents selections – for example, one team played with a striker in goal for the first half before putting their first choice, fully fit 'keeper on in the second half. My forwards weren't complaining but it doesn't score high for realism. That's as bad as it's been for me, though.

All in all, it's a decent version. As with previous years it doesn't make sweeping changes but rather it adds a few interesting features. If like dynamicv you're in two minds then I'd say maybe wait until the full patch is released before taking the plunge.

Problem when joining another team

I've recently purchased the new game, and to be honest I was having no problems at all with it. I do not know if this has been mentioned earlier in the thread, but after the first season I hit a stumbling block. The thing is that I was the manager of Lyon, and come the end of the season Arsenal had sacked Wenger. Once this happened, I applied for the Arsenal job. This is where the problem started.

Arsenal offered me the job, and I accepted. Yet, as soon as I did so, the game shut down and gave me an error message. I had saved the game, so I tried again and again to become the Arsenal manager, yet the same thing kept happening. So, I then resigned from Lyon, and tried to see if any other club would come in for me. Atheltico Madrid did, so I gave that a go. Yet, once again, the game crashed when I accepted the contracted offer from Madrid. It is extremely frustrated, and I see no point in playing the game if I can't change the club I manage throughout.

Does anybody know if this is a problem with the game? Has anybody else had the same problem? I have not downloaded any patches for it yet. Does anybody know if this problem is one that can be solved by downloading the patch? Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Yeah, I believe thats a known bug.

The official patch (much delayed), is due out Wednesday evening England time.

How do you change the resolution in full screen mode? I can't find any way of changing it.

Can you play this game without the disk? I'm going to get it soon.

Is there anyway to play it without the disk? I take my Mac all over with me and wouldn't mind playing it on the train without having to lug the case about with me.
