Check out Vay. It's a Final Fantasy-ish JRPG.

App Store Linky

According to the App Store, it came out on July 6, 2008, but somehow I doubt that's when it really came out. I've been through the many pages of apps several times since the 11th and this is the first time I've heard of it.

At $4.99, it might be worth a look.

I can't take credit for finding it. It was brought to my attention on another forum and thought I would share the find.

They really need to get it together with the release dates. How can something that was 'released' 9 days ago just show up now?

btw...the d/l is a bit hefty at 49MB.

Haha I played this on Sega CD!! Good game a lot like Lunar if you ever played that..... maybe that will get ported as well.

This is exactly the kind of game I've been hoping would show up. Thanks for pointing it out!

And yeah... it's getting harder and harder to find new apps, since the dates are all screwy with new additions...

What is even MORE annoying is that you cannot find this app listed anywhere unless you do the "all iphone applications" thing and page through 38 pages of apps (or know it exists and search by name).

Using the Browse link in the upper right corner of the app store in iTunes gives you text lists based on categories, but it does not show up there either!!! But if I search for it by name I can get it. I feel bad for the developer, almost no one will ever know his game exists unless someone tells them!

This needs to be addressed. How many more cool apps are out there that we don't know even exist? Scary....:(

Dling it now. It says widescreen, but the still of a town has that huge menu on the right, making the view of towns only 4:3, can you hide it?

I hope the dubbing isn't too bad

Also, searching for rpg in iTunes will also bring up the game.

It's like any rpg from the days long ago, so it's turn based, not real time.

In battle, only fought once. You have a menu on the top, I tapped sword, then you tap the enemy which to attack. The game goes full widescreen for battle, and you characters seem to be newer artwork that looks nicer than what I saw on youtube.

To move, you tap on the screen to make the character move there. Though, if a wall is between you, you may have to manually guide the character around it. You can move really fast by double tapping to cause the character to run left, right, and up and down, until hitting something or you tap again.

The menu has the plain iPhone interface, so it's a little jarring from the style of the game. At least saving is quick. Just tap an empty of filled spot and it's done instantly, no wait. Though, I hope it doesn't get too complicated when I get more items and characters to constantly go through page after page of the iphone interface to equip things.

If you want an RPG, I think we lucked out to get something like this and only $5. Seeing how this was a real console RPG, it should have quality and a classic feel to it. And comments on youtube mentioned it was similar to Lunar, and overall a good game.

EDIT: Also, I just noticed in the settings for iPhone you can find extra options for Vay.

Like, turning BGM, SFX off and on, or all sounds. Switch battle sprites to original graphics. You can rename any of the characters. Also a hard mode.

Another one not available in the UK.

Why don't developer want their games and apps played outside of the US - it is crazy them giving up a market for no reason.
