If the iPad is your main device, then the cost of extra storage or LTE might be worth it. This is how all companies get you on pricing. If it's worth something to you, then you'll pay for it.

Sadly yep. I may whine and grumble, maybe wait for discounts to make the pricing less painful but ultimately, I still pay the premium for storage and cellular.

Why the big need for cellular on an iPad?....

I'm a boater and having the GPS for nav is great redundancy....Ocean tested for thousands of miles and it works well for me.
