Ugg. This microcell would have been perfect for me!

So I went and purchased one from my local ATT store, they did the initial setup online right there in store with no problems, I take it home, connect it and about 10 minutes later get messages that the GPS does not match the location given for the address.

Few hours later after moving it around to different locations in the house I finally call tech support and they tell me that even though I live in NC and it is rolled out for all of NC, and even though the store sold it to me about 5 miles from my house that I live out of range and it is not available for me yet. But not to worry because according to the coverage map I get good service for edge anyway. (anyone with ATT has about a 2mile dead zone around my house and it has always been there)

How frustrating to be so close to being able to use my iPhone as a phone and then have it snatched away.

At least they made a note on my account to not charge me a restocking fee when I return the thing on Monday. :(

That really sucks.

That is quite a bummer for sure. It answers my question though about trying to get one before they are officially in my area - wonder how long until my small town will be allowed to use them.

Makes me want to look more seriously into either Skype or Line2 for my iPhone so I can at least make calls from my basement. Also, Line2 will allow easy incoming calls.

As far as the cost, I consider $150 cheap since I have already bought a $300 wireless cell booster amplifier and antenna and am considering upgrades for better signal improvement that will cost another $200-300. Oh well, Vonage works well for me right now - just looking to simply things...
