When the IPhone arrives in Europe/asia will you buy it if it has no 3G?

Uppdate, hope US citizens refrain from answering the poll, sins it is easy not to want something you haven't taken for granted for the last 3+ years. You dont se manny people in Africa demanding High Def televisions, do you?...

Where is the "F*** no! who gives a $h** about 3G" option?
sorry, but im kind of sick of this! there is nothing wrong with edge ATM!

well i live in the uk and ive never known anyone to use 3g lol, the europe iphone will be exactly the same as the us one, jobs has already said that its the 3g chips that were the problem for them, not the american coverage, a lot of people waiting for a 3g iphone soon in europe or us are in for dissapointment

I'm in Hong Kong and almost every malls and Starbucks have Wi-Fi connection. Why use 3G when you can access the net with Wi-Fi?:D

that's pretty funny.

it takes me a minute or two to load the barebones google.com on edge if I don't get edge activation errors first...i'd buy an entirely new iPhone right now if I could get 3G.

Goodness no.

Would I be happier with quicker EDGE service? Yes

But EDGE is not as bad as some say, imo. It gets me to sites I need at a pace I can live with.

I'm from belgium, and flanders has 50+% coverage now. I live in between Antwerp & Brussels and the whole zone here has 100% coverage, even in small villages and stuff. So you might understand that I expect a $600 phone to have 3G and as important as that feature: a bluetooth modem function.

I want to use my iPhone as a 3G modem for my MacBook Pro. If it can't handle that, well screw the iPhone then. I'm not paying that amount of money for a fancy iPod that can handle sms & phone-calls. And don't tell me it's an internet device when you can't open a *****load of websites (flash) & can't download anything...

In short: 3G + full bluetooth functionality or no iPhone for me.

I use 3G aon average about once a day. With the iPhone i would want 3G.

Also until the iPhone release i hadn't even heard of EDGE even though 3G has been out for a couple of years now. Going to EDGE is definitely a step in the wrong direct.

Wha?!?! Only once a day? I use my 3G internet 50+ times a day. And that can be slow. I'd hate to have EDGE. The iPhone best have 3G if not 3.5G by time it hits Asia otherwise it will be a joke.

Well i don't really need to use it that much as i'm only a student so don't really need to use it at all

It seems like only Germany, France and the UK are getting the iPhone in autmn, probably 1st November!

The other 24 countries and asia will have to wait till 2008.
That sucks!

:(

Well, although i like the gizmo, i'm still thinking 'what is all the hype about'

it's missing quite some features (GPS since i don't need a map when i know where i am, proper networking and the ability to use it as a tethered modem)

so for the time being, i'm not going to stampeed to any shop; i'd buy an ipod with that screen which can do my ical, and some surfing and mail using wifi and bluetooth just as well. I'll tether that ipod to my 3G nokia .... i have never had a 2 year contract, and i honestly feel that that is too constricting for my taste

true for many cities, but i demand to be able to surf at an descent speed when i on the buss when using an $600 internet device.

We don't have edge here, I think. EDGE is something they have in America that's better than GPRS, or so I've read on these forums. I've had a 3G phone since about a year after they came out and I never expected there to be a 3g iphone within 6 months of the rev. A, purely because i remember the size of the first 3Gs when they came out and the sub-24hr battery life in standby mode they were getting when 2Gs like the 6310 (the phone so good it got discontinued to encourage stubborn users to upgrade) were getting 2 weeks. If a 2G iphone's weakest point is its battery, don't expect 3G for a long time. Phones like the k800 have only just made 3G tolerable. Besides, UMTS still costs a bomb anyways, just as GPRS did. its just a lot quicker. i expect most ppl will only use their iphones for email unless they're in a wifi hotspot.

I'm pretty happy about all this news TBH, because I've been meaning to switch to O2 anyways as having finally left 3 (honestly, don't!!!! even if u don't care about the technical hitches, the fact that they have 20+ third party ppl ringing u ad infinitum to offer u an upgrade from around 9 months before you're even allowed to all the way to a year after you've ported the number to another network is enough to make u wanna get a new number) for vodafone, i'm not so sure the premium service is worth the premium price. The iphone should drop when my current 18month contract ends. That said, I won't even consider it unless there's a 16GB model by then as I'm struggling with my 30GB as it is.

Are you talking about people using an smart phone with large screen or an regular size phone? If it is an regular size phone most people soon give upp trying to surf on it and at most use an RSS reader, because of the small screen.

The size of an 3g chip today is 0.5 inch square or 1.27 centimeters (migt exist smaller) so It shouldn't be that hart to install one. I will accept a somewhat lager Ipone if it has 3G. And battery time for 3g is of course not as big of an problem as it fas when 3g arrived (my Motorola A925 is HUGH and drains battery very fast). The new chips uses very little power. It uses more power then 2G off course but there is no need for the 3G chip to me enabled unless you are using safari or receiving mail with large attachments. The same goes for wifi.

More than 3G I want a phone to put it in! Seems "Europe" consists of Germany, France and the UK...

I suggest Lego is withhold from the US market until this is solved... ;-)

Whats up with this exclusive rights stuff. I thought the US was all about freedom and open markets? Guess not

where i live the only place i can get 3g on my phone Nokia n70 is in the center of town and always outside never in door's

until 3G get's to work everywhere and inside building's it is useless to me

hansen: yes, and we are withholding all new IKEA stores :)

About coverage: maby are a bit spoiled here in Sweden, the UMTS licenses was given away for free with the stipulation that something like 98% of the population must be covered.

UMTS should offcourse be HSDPA

I have a 3G Motorola V3xx which, as you all probably know, is a very slim and compact phone. It works very well indeed and has an excellent battery life. Indeed it is far superior in every respect to other V3s that I have had in the past.

Making the iPhone 3G cannot be that difficult!

Can you add more options to the poll.

I probably fall into the category "I will be majorly annoyed but will probably just get won over by the UI and end up buying it"

3G has finally made using the web on your phone a viable option. I've been really impressed with how good 3G is on my Sony Ericsson handset, so its something I'd love to see on the iPhone. I'd go so far as to say its a deal-breaker for me as I wouldn't want to go back to incredibly slow connection speeds.

I'm dissapointed that there will be no 3G iphone for the forseeable future, i won't be getting one until it's at least 3G capable if not better (HSDPA). I currently has a N95 which is pretty good for browsing and is about the only phone I've had that I can say I find useable to browse and check webmail. I can't see me going back to slow 2G speeds, especially when I'll have to pay a fortune for the privilege.
