Ouch...Can’t be explained in few enough words for your attention span, it would seem :’)
Inferior? In my opinion, no. The value of the regular model exceeds the Pro and Air, in my opinion. The display to me is also excellent. The 7th should compete well with these models.
Technologically inferior? The base model processors are plenty fast for the majority of users. The display is as good as laminated to me. I get you're enamored by Apple loading up more expensive models with technology. But the question is whether it's really needed or useful for many or even most users to justify that significant increased price point. If you're willing to buy into that approach and you feel better having more technology for its own sake, then that's another story.
Dare I say it? But watch out for a white spot on the screen of a 10.5” iPP.
Just a warning for you to be aware. My iPP (2017) suffered from it and I believe it is a ‘relatively’ common issue.
Please don’t flame me said with the best of intentions.
Apart from that the iPP is a beast. Go for it!
The A10 is already 3 years old ... the shortest life of all the iPads out there. Do yourself a favor and get the IPad Pro 10.5 or air 2019
I had a 2017 iPad Pro from launch and never had it so.....
Funny how some know what's best for everyone else.
That's very good news and I am genuinely happy that your iPP does not suffer from it.
I was just pointing out that it is definitely something to watch out for, not that it was certain that it would suffer from it.
Given the processor age, it's a pleasant surprise to see how well this still works for typical consumer workloads. At that age, something like iPad 2 or 3 were certainly lacking even just on the web browsing front. I actually expect 2-3 more years of acceptable performance from A10.It’s a fact ... the A10 is the oldest. If you are aiming for value like you say longevity is a factor and the A10 has the worst longevity at this point of time.

With current street pricing, it doesn't need to have super great longevity. Sure, it likely has the shortest remaining life cycle among the current line-up but it's also cheap to replace. That said, at this point in time, better to wait off on the rumored refresh unless your current iPad breaks or something and you need a replacement immediately.

The next gen regular iPad likely released this autumn will not have the A10, but instead probably A12 or even A13 according to Macworld. You have your facts wrong. In addition, regular iPad processors have always held up well over many successions of IOS.
That's what most value users who don't need all the bells and whistles look for, especially when the cost savings is typically half the cost of the Pro models. On top of that, there's more than enough savings left over to upgrade more frequently as well.
I never said the next one will. I’m talking about the one out now. They also won’t add the A12 or A13 because that would make the Air a useless product. So you have your facts wrong
The iPad Air 2019 is a better value then the 6th gen iPad
Sorry, you sound totally confused now. Maybe time to move on with what's important for you.
Sorry you’re the confused one. Go read the OP. Asking about the iPad Air and the iPad Pro 10.5
You was the person bringing up the 6th gen iPad which confused me.
Funny comment.
If one doesn't need more than 32GB storage, Air 3 is more like double the price of the basic. Similar situation if 128GB is one's storage sweet spot. For $150 more or whatever the number is you’ll get years more worth with the Air then the iPad. If you’re talking about value ... then value in time using the product the air is a better value and cheaper in the long run. Cheaper up front sure that is what the iPad is but not in the scheme of things. You’ll just end up buying a newer one sooner. The only time I’ll actually suggest the iPad is if you buying it for kids or just want an iPad and can’t afford a higher. One
You’re funny because the iPad 6th gen is the worst iPad to get. The 7th gen is coming out soon and even that one is a bad value. It isn’t getting the A12 or A13 because it would make the iPad Air obsolete

My primary iPad is the 2017 Pro 10.5 but I've often used the iPad 6 while the other is charging. Without ProMotion, there's not really a big performance difference in typical consumer tasks. Reckon it's the high efficiency (low power) cores that runs most of the time.
It's a bad time to buy the iPad 6 now given all the rumors of a fall refresh. Still, whether Air 3 or iPad 6 is better value depends solely on the individual.
For someone just using an iPad for YouTube, Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, ebooks, web browsing, etc, is the upcharge for the Air 3 and its bells and whistles worth it?
I'm the techie in the family so my target is a 1TB Pro (even if yes, I'm only using it for consumption). The rest of the family? The choice is actually between something like the Kindle Fire vs iPad 6, not iPad 6 vs iPad Air 3. Not because they can't afford it but because even the iPad 6 is more than good enough for their use and they'd rather spend the money on something else.
I'm sorry, but you're wrong and completely confused about the facts. No one knows the specs of the upcoming 7th gen, but according to vey reliable sources it'll have the A12 or A13 chip. For the continued expected lower price, it will be an excellent iPad and value for those who don't need all the Pro features and can save a ton of money at the same time.
I’m beginning to feel doubtful of any iPad refresh for 2019 tbh. The current iPad lineup is already pretty saturated and could benefit from being rested this year imo.
Technically, $250 upfront if you're look at street pricing for base models (so more or less enough savings to buy a new entry level model sooner if needed). Besides, chances are if you resell, depreciation on a $250 iPad 6 will be less than depreciation on a $500 iPad Air 3.Yes in the short term but people should stop looking at the end price. People need to take into effect how long you are going to keep the device and think would that $150 upfront save you money in the longer run.
As for the produce argument, we've actually stopped buying bulk packages of goods that can spoil. If you buy the $3.99 bag at $0.25/lb and only eat 4 lbs (or less) and throw away the rest, you've still spent $1+ more than you needed to.Similar to how non organic strawberries might cost $3.99 but say $0.25 a pound but the organic ones cost $2.99 but cost $0.75 per pound. The organic ones are cheaper to your wallet upfront but cost more per pound meaning you’ll get less.
