It's been working great is the good news. But I didn't know the above, so thank you!

I'll re-config it. So slot 1 and 3 are the "turbo" slots. I wonder if I should throw my HighPoint controller card in slut 3 for now (right now those are my only 2 cards). In theory, it's a 16bit slot. In reality, I'm probably using only 1 4lane channel for my single drive.

I was thinking that too, but decided to leave them as is. My Highpoint 7103 (with 4 SSDs) is in slot 4 and my I/O Crest (with 2 SSDs) is in slot 5. I also have a Highpoint USB card in slot 7.

Good: Although Catalina can be annoying, the system is incredibly stable and robust. The machine itself is amazing and built like a fine car... a real joy to handle. And it fits into the Mac ecosystem wonderfully. It's just great to have a powerful desktop performance within the Apple experience once again.

Bad: The only thing I've been frustrated/disappointed with is the performance of my work apps like Premier and After Effects, but that's on Adobe, not Apple.

catalina is definitely annoying because migration assistant from mojave but that probably doesn't have anything to do with catalina, more Apple's fault. Especially with all my plugin and editing software compatibility, but the macpro itself is probably the most amazing thing i've ever purchased.

There's probably no measurable difference on a lightly loaded system like yours. The PCIe switch will run the x16 slots at full x16 speed until it is overloaded and has to share bandwidth among the downstream slots.

What I wonder is if it makes a difference in when the system goes to sleep. It *shouldnt* but it's one of those things that I wonder about. Right now, I cant tell if it's my wx 9100 video card or my high point card, but when the system goes to sleep it hangs. I suspect moving the cards shouldn't change things, but it's worth a shot just to run down that variable.

^^^^Is the MPX module still installed? I generally don't use sleep, (I just use screen saver) but I've read other instances of folks having problems like you describe. However, I just put my Mac to sleep, waited 5 minutes, then woke her up. No issue - No hang, no freeze.

I have an 5700XT in slot 1, a Highpoint with 4 SSDs in slot 4 and an I/O Crest with 2 SSDs in slot 5. My 580X is not installed. In reading this:

Having both the MPX module and a third party GPU can cause issues.

No, I pulled the 580x out as it's basically useless. I'll move my 9100 down from slot 4 to slot 1 and see if that makes any difference. Thanks for sharing your experience/setup.
