Its tough, obviously the portability of the 14" is excellent, like insane but the screen real estate and the slightly better speakers is amazing on the 16". I am still torn. Right now I am siding with the 16" but that may change in a few hours. By the way, absolutely in love with the Space Black. It looks amazing, I will exchange this 16" for another Space Black hopefully with no other scuffs/chips.
no denying it looks better in the 16!

I am trying to decide as well whether to get the 16" or stay with the 14". If I need to leave the house with a Mac, I can use my 13" M2 MBA. I don't need the extra screen for workflow but still tempted.

I don't know about it being a fingerprint magnet or not, but the palms of my hands leave a rather noticeable print on the top cover, more than I'd like. However, the color is gorgeous, so I'm keeping it.

I ordered the 16 in SB, cancelled it and got Silver instead. I had a SG MBP M1 and I normally lean towards the darker color options. This is my first Silver and I have to say, it is quite a lovely and low show/maintenance color. Not sure I regret it yet. I have a little over a week to figure out if i do regret not going with SB.
my silver still shows prints, lots.. just sayin'

Good to know! Last silver Macbook I have had was a 2014 Air which passed away in 2018 and I don't remember whether it showed prints or not.
yeah maybe its me.. lol, I am kinda oily.. always eating, using computer. not too careful. the apple cloth does wonders tho... the silver makes the 16 look really large tho compared to the SB IMO

After doing several buying cart experiments between the 14" and 16", I decided to get the 16" and when it arrives, return the 14." My initial preorder was for the 16" so, I find myself back at square one again. lol

1) I noticed after upgrading to 36GB RAM with the 2TB drive, I was at 16" pricing.
2) The last several days I have found myself getting very close to filling the 1TB on the 14" moving 4K videos. I often work on my Mac while in my recliner and the last thing I need are hub dongles with attached drives
3) I have no proof here but, my gut tells me Apple has some big changes coming to the OS next year that will take more RAM, depending on options used in the OS. I do find it odd that Apple broke convention and went with 18GB RAM on the base pro models. If I am 100%, then upgrading the RAM only cost me $400. The last thing I want to do is cut it close after a year.

Did you get black or silver 16”?
Larger is nice!

Having owned three silver Airs and a silver MacBook Pro over the years, I'm kind of over silver. I received a Space Black Pro yesterday and have no complaints. Compared to my (employer provided) Space Gray MacBook Pro, depending upon the light, sitting side-by-side it seems more 'Space Grayer' than a true 'Black'. I can't say I have a strong preference either way, I like both colors.

How do you like the color? Wish you got Silver instead?
I got two for my business. One 14 inch M3 pro 18/12/1TB and one 16 inch M3Max 1TB/48/16, both in space black. Both are gorgeous. The M3 Max is stupid fast. Screens are fantastic (and, by the way, pixel response is much improved from M1/M2 families.) We are lucky to be alive now and enjoy this tech. Sold my m1 Air and M1Max and replaced them with these wonders.

I noticed the pixel response was better on my 16" M3 Max over my 14" M1 Max also. I thought I saw a test that didn't paint that same picture but I've also found that ambient temperature really affects response too.

Porsche calls a very similar color “Volcano Grey”. I think the main reason I prefer it on a new MBP is that there’s less reflected light from the screen compared with silver or space grey.

I think a bicolor edition would be perfect. Some parts in space black and others in silver (a little bit like the XPS).

On a related note, the space black trim around the display seems like it would be less distracting. I forget when but at some point Apple started using black around the display of all iPads regardless of the color of the back. This would not work for MacBooks since the trim around the display is part of the top enclosure.

Got my Space Black 16 and I have been a non negotiable silver user until now. it's gorgeous with no marks and really looks nice. Also looks smaller. Highly recommend and no regrets!

Space Black does visually blend better with the small black bezels, but to my eyes the little distraction of that thin metal border around the bezels is a minor thing than the considerable amount of reflected light from the areas surrounding the keyboard on the Silver MPB’s. Probably more of a factor with the 16-inch size compared to smaller.

Space Black would have been a nice option for my 2012 15-inch non-retina MBP with the matte screen option. The bezels on those matte screen MBP’s was the same silver as the rest of the enclosure.

FWIW, I was surprised how much less reflective space black is compared to space gray even. When my roommate unboxed his 16" Max and left it to sit on his island for data transfer, I put it next to my 14" M1 while I worked. It did a much better job at dispersing the overhead light.

Hey Folks,

I saw a post somewhere or maybe a video that said the greyness is due to the type of finish they used to repel fingerprints. It reflects light differently than a normal paint finish.

Y'all be cool,
Robert
