Seen some say "why get one, it's going to scratch anyway" - or "It will look silly"

Ok I have the Sport Space Gray aluminum - chances for scratching the face, the shell are higher than the SS / Sapphire glass. I accept the case will - probably - get scratched at some point. I am extremely careful with it..but I bumped it already in the 16 days I've had this (thankfully not hard enough to make a dent or scratch it)

As for screen protectors, wow..I have NO regret getting one of those "Invisible Shields" for the face right now. I noticed after taking it off tonight there are 2 tiny "dings" on the protective skin - no damage to the the Ion glass. Wasn't there this morning and I have no idea how that happened. Could have been anything..

Anyway, I'm not advertising some brand, just saying if I did not give in and get one of these. the actual face may have a decent yet tiny scratches tonight, it would bug me and I'd be one upset man.

I say get one, 25-30 bucks just adds a little piece of mind.

This was after accidental but solid contact with a stone wall over the weekend. The Armorsuit screen protector took the full impact and I doubt my non sapphire screen would have escaped undamaged without it.

- BUT this does scare me, I can talk about screen protectors all I want. One nasty bump on the corner...ugh. I cringe at the thought. I'm sorry!

Interesting comment. I can't come back with a retort to make you understand. You're probably one of those people who walk around with a cracked screen on your phone, congrats to you.

But I guarantee you, I will never drop my phone screen first on a rock. Just won't happen. I've never been that haphazard or clumsy. I've had many cell phones in my life and never have dropped one, since my first one in 1998. Have traded in all of my phones and received full value each time because of no scratches or cracks. Not saying I'm special or better than anyone, I'm just careful and take preventive measures (case, screen protectors, etc). I also own several watches, some high end, and I certainly would be upset if something happened to them.

To each their own, Apple Care is a great thing for those who aren't so careful. I don't need it. I see more cracked screens every day, it's a very normal occurrence nowadays, I just think its ridiculous to treat expensive objects haphazardly, maybe my age is showing, I value things that cost a decent amount of money so I'm careful, yet I still enjoy them to the fullest. To each their own, I enjoy my tech toys and don't want cracked phones/watches, etc.

You can't possibly guarantee that you will never drop or damage something, accidents happen, to suggest otherwise is ludicrous. Has no one ever bumped into you in a crowded place, have you never tripped and fallen? Accidents are called that for a reason. Ok, so you won't remove your watch in a situation where it cold become damaged, great most of us won't, ever heard of a little thing called a manufacturing defect? It's entirely possible for a watch strap to break with no warning and send your precious, mustn't ever be touched by human hands watch, hurtling to the ground. Incidentally, protecting a phone with a case doesn't always work, my brother-in-law always has his phone in a defender case, never takes it out of it, yet he's managed to crack his screen more than once.

I've already said I won't baby my phone, or watch, I think that having to ensure you are in a situation of complete and utter safety before using something is ridiculous. That said, having owned every iPhone since the 3GS, I've never damaged one, never had a cracked screen or big nasty scratches on them. That includes using them on a demolition site where there's lots of potential for them to be destroyed beyond recognition.

Outside of that I have a collection of nearly 40 video game consoles, some of which are over 30 years old and are still in perfect working order. I have watches that are over 20 years old and still look incredible. I could go on, but the point is, you don't need to treat something with kid gloves to ensure its survival.

I have taken AppleCare out not because I'm clumsy or because I'm going to use my Apple Watch as a hockey puck. But because accidents can, do and will happen. Nor do I want to have to consciously consider every moment of use of it, it's a watch ffs. No, I've taken it out because it represents good value for money against the possibility of damage. Even if I never have to use it.

When my arm spasms I don't want to have to panic that it's going to hit off something hard and damage my watch. So AppleCare solves that problem, if my expensive shiny toy gets damaged it gets repaired or replaced for very little money. By the time AppleCare runs out it won't matter, I'll have the next version of the watch before then with a nice new AppleCare policy to protect it against the unknown. This isn't a finely crafted timepiece I'm going to keep for decades.

Perhaps I would think differently had I been like you and was blessed with a life where accidents never happened, manufacturing defects didn't exist. Or where, God forbid, a mass produced electronic device stopped working for no apparent reason. But as I don't, I'll happily pay a paltry amount of money to protect my expensive gadget against the unknown.
