My setup is a 2010 27” iMac, upgraded with an internal SSD, and a 2018 12.9” IPP. Also an iPhone and an AW.

I had a 2014 MBP, which I sold when I purchased the IPP, as I felt I wouldn’t need both. Turns out I was correct.

A few years back I changed roles and industries, from consulting to being an employee, which in turn changed what I did with my Apple devices. Work is on a company-issued PC running Windows 10, and, oddly enough, an iPad Air. My Apple devices have moved to personal use almost exclusively.

Some of the tasks I use my IPP for are web browsing, email, viewing and editing photos, watching videos, occasionally viewing and updating Excel spreadsheets for my home budget, writing, task management via OmniFocus, home inventory, and retail therapy.

The iMac is used for heavier lifting in Excel to help manage my SO’s rental properties, more extensive writing projects, iTunes for managing my iPhone and iPod, document scanning, OmniFocus, home inventory, watching movies, and basically everything I do on my IPP but on a large screen plus a conventional keyboard, mouse, and trackpad, all while sitting at a desk.

I’d like to acquire a new or refurbished iMac at some point, but can’t justify it in the near term. Nice to have, but the 2010 (especially with the internal SSD) works well enough.

I use the IPP way more than the iMac, but I like having both.

MacBook - I typically use my laptop for photo editing and using Microsoft Office suite

IPP - Is for pretty much everything else (email, messaging, web browsing, video streaming, etc.). I do light photo editing on my IPP, especially when I'm traveling.

I had a 2018 13” Macbook Pro and iPad Pro 10.5” 2nd gen for a little bit before I sold the Macbook Pro. Now I have the iPad Pro 11” with a 2018 Mac Mini alongside it instead. I use the Mac Mini to be able to run things like Xcode and such and I will use my bigger 35” screen for longer sessions. I have remote desktop setup though so if I feel like testing things out I can do it from the iPad Pro. With the pen it does actually works quite well.

Also got my gaming desktop that I use for well, gaming, and my work laptop I use for work.

I use both for both...depending on where I am and what I’m going to be doing.

As a general rule, I use my 15” MBP for work and my 11” iPad Pro I use for media consumption and note taking. HOWEVER, the lines have been blurred a bit now that I got a Brydge keyboard for my iPad Pro.

I took the iPad to Starbucks yesterday by itself and got some good writing and studying done. The unfortunate thing is iOS...its limitations prohibit me from multi-tasking like I do on my MBP. My MBP is used both as a laptop and a desktop (connected to a Belkin Thurnderbolt 3 hub that then connects to two LG 4K 27” monitors and my Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Trackpad) in the office.

Both devices fit right into my workflow. Love the interoperability. You honestly need to get iCloud working...it’s awesome. I love doing some reading on my iPad, copying text on it and then pasting it on a Word document on my MBP.

I think I'm getting there with it, although I'm sure I'm not using it to its max potential. I really need to take the time to have an Apple geek tell me everything I need to do to make it flow.
