Wow, how cool is that? Thank you for that.

So Apple did get in touch with the owner, and they emailed me and have their iPod back. Plus we got information on how it was stolen and think we can use it to help bust a few kids on base who have formed their own little theft ring. Thanks everyone for the help, my office is going to be using some of the tips I found here to help build evidence against the ringleaders. HAGD :)

You might not expect to hear anything from the OP, who has not returned for nearly 8 years (look at the post dates :D )
I suspect that if it was something that Apple helped with, that they have since stopped, probably because of the potential for fraud, or just personal privacy issues.

What makes you think Apple wouldn't help "for privacy reasons"? If Apple has the proper owner's email address, _Apple_ can contact them.

Good job sir! It may seem like a small thing to some but I bet the owner is eternally grateful for your due diligence.

I realize this original post is from 2009 but I thought I would chime in.

A friend of mine left his brand new iPad Air 2 on the sidewalk downtown and drove off without it. He called Apple and reported it missing and 6 days later was contacted by his local police saying they had it. Someone had picked it up and turned it into the police and the police contacted Apple to get the owners information. Officially Apple said they couldn't help my friend but unofficially they can and do help.

I'm in a similar situation, however, at a great disadvantage, since I lost my phone.

Two days ago (Sunday) I went to a park but two guys annoyed me and I told them to stop wasting time, so I took out my nano to record them for proof, to show that these guys just are mischief makers. When they noticed it, they said ,' is that a phone? Are you texting someone' they asked again whether I was texting someone or not. I Sid nope to them, since I was recording them, so They slowly came up to me, so I pushed it into my pocket, but not fully in, and since there was a book, it stayed up there, with Apple headphones earpods popping right out of it! Since I made a quick turn, and went into the park, it must have fallen out of the pocket. I wanted to scare those boys off and to stop them from bullying people smaller than them so I found a mother and her children and I went with them towards those guys and then a bus came and they got in. Assuming that the iPod nano was recording, I laughed at them, but when I got home and threw my book onto the bed: the iPod nano wasn't gone

A: it could have been in the park
B: it could have dropped somewhere on the way home
C: it could be with THEM!!!

I traced the nano several times in the park and on the way back and forth to ward's my house.

Then I searched on the net whether you can track it but every one said no, but then I wondered why serial numbers are made in the first place!?

I went on my maccompuyer and somehow found the serial number of my iPod nano.

When I typed in the code of my iPod nano onto the Apple website, It aid on the Mac site :
'A Valid purchase date lets Apple quickly find your product and provide the help you need'

And it said that I had a valid purchase date on the web page, and a green tick right next to it!. Does this mean they can help me find it or does it mean something else??

Also I remember that there's video recording s on my sister, dad, mom and I on it. My brothers name is mentioned on one of the tracks on iTunes and so is mine. But if those boys stole it idk if they'll even give it back, but if they've or someone else has synced it up to a computer, Apple might be able to see the location of where the iPod nano is hooked up with.

I know when people say that it's impossible to find it, that would mean serial numbers don't mean anything., which I font think is true! Here's a pic of what the Apple coverage checker said for proof.

Ps I also have lost if songs recorded on there, and I use it as a musician and for my school work etc so it's important to me.

If you live around Monier park in Perth Australia, and find it, it has two white earpods attached to a gray nano with a black screen. Thankee. I appreciate all your help and especially TandEsMommy for sharing that story with us
