Just wanted to share my experience purchasing an iPad 2017 128gb Wifi model.

Ordered one click and collect, upon opening at home there was one piece of visible dust under the screen.

Second one opened back at store had two dust pieces in different places - very noticeable.

Third one had a hairline scratch on the screen, fourth one ok.

Feel rather underwhelmed after that purchase experience today though hope I can move on and love the device now.

I'm by no means a OCD nut job and all of this was spotted with the naked eye, no magnifying glass to see.

Make sure you check them folks.

In hk once you walk out of apple store cannot return or replace.

I tried two iPad Air 2 and two iPad pro 9,7" in order to replace my iPad 3. I was very disappointed about the quality of the screens of these devices. Now i bought an iPad 2017 128GB wifi and everything seems to be ok.
Ok, the iPad 2017 cannot be compared to the pro, but concerning build quality there is no compromise in this device.

Air 2 screen is better

So agree with his sentiments but you wanted to take the time to argue his semantics for a bit? This place gets nuttier every day.

I think you misconstrued LyceumHQ's Post and it's clear he wasn't agreeing with Apple's "Generosity" . He was arguing the point of Apple's lack there of generosity regarding the return policy, which arguing is part of discussion, is it not? I think you bifurcated the @lyceumHQ Post.

He is saying he doesn't feel Apple is being generous with a return policy, when the customer should have the right to return a product that potentially is defective within scope of the return period, which Apple didn't intend it to be defective from the point of sale. If there is a potential defect with the product, then Apple should rectify it regardless. A customer should be happy with the product in the first place.

I think when one shells out hundreds of dollars for a premium product they have the right to be satisfied with it. I guess I have been lucky with my purchases or I just don't notice them as I put my iPad in an otterbox case as soon as I get them which hide any blemishes or imperfections.
makes me wonder how some here can ever buy a home...

Easy for me. I got a mortgage and bought one.

One's "right to satisfaction," while not difficult to understand, varies too greatly from customer to customer. This board has shown over and again that there can exist a gargantuan disparity between two different peoples' satisfaction with a single product.

True. You make a good point. I just guess I look at apple products differently from other products as they are more premium. Many times they cost more than other similar items. I have never returned any apple products but if something were amiss with one of my apple products and I was unhappy and in my window to exchange it, I would be okay with doing that.

I helped my mum buy the new iPad and since I own apple products myself, see signature, and never had to return any it's safe to say that I'm not easily swayed to complain and return goods which I've bought.

With the new iPad (the 128gb version) I purchased for my mum, though, I saw on start up that the screen was unusually shifted to the left. Leaving a thick black border on the right side and bottom side. It wasn't centred at all. So we returned it to the store where they also confirmed without defending or hassle that our observation is indeed correct. They exchanged the product and we switched it on in store this time. Again the screen wasn't centred, this time shifted more to the right. Needless to say we immediately swapped it for a third one. Which, finally was a good one.

So from first hand I can confirm that this iteration of iPads is unusually sloppy in quality control. Having never had to swap a product before and now twice, could be bad luck, but reading others sharing similar sentiment, I'd say the price cut comes at a cost..

I just had to exchange my iPad Pro 128 GB LTE because it was acting up with the Smart Keyboard (flickering on lock screen, randomly waking up, not connecting, etc).

No problems at all with the new one.

These things can happen to the best of them.

No issue with the 2017 iPad though.

My point being that you can't return a home and there will always be defects and the cost of a home is MAGNITUDES more than a 300 dollar iPad.

Lol very true and believe me I have at times wished I could return my house when things broke. I guess I just look at them as different things.

Well, I swapped out with another Pro and although there's still temp color differences and a small bit of backlight bleed, it's MUCH better than the previous Pro. I'll give it a week, it probably keep this one.

It's amazing how the media has not reported on this issue

This is a terrible example for multiple reasons. People pull out of buying homes daily because they notice defects, I know because I do it. Also at least you get a full tour of the house and can access all kinds of documentation on it. I don't know how you buy a home, but I am extremely thorough before parting ways with that sort of money, same with a car, and those you CAN return and get replaced if the brand new one has a defect. Heck I've seen situations where a defect is found months after purchase and the manufacturer has to take the car back, a great example would appear if you just Google Volkswagen Dieselgate .

A spec of dust in an iPad Display can mean its poorly insulated and that may mean more down the line, in the same way that wet patches of a wall in a house you're looking at may mean poor plumbing and therefore worse things to come down the line.

OP did a good thing, whether you are paying $300 for a piece of tech or $300,000 for a home, you deserve to get the best quality possible.

I just made a simular expirience when i was trying to buy a 32GB model. After receiving two devices with visible dust, i didn't wanted to to try it a third time and got my money back. I never had such a bad buying expierence with apple products. Looks like my iPad 2 has to do it's job a little bit longer ...

You're able to return a car after buying it and get a replacement? That's not true for nearly 100% of cases. That dieselgate was a scandal that allowed it.

Try buying a car off any lot and return it because of a defect. They won't replace, they will repair

Regarding houses, even NEW houses have defects. There is no house that will be 100% perfect, hence my comment

That is fair, if it's fixable then fix it, and no cost to the customer, but when defects are deep and affect the performance or longevity of a car, yes it does get replaced.

I know someone who got his VW Sirocco-R replaced after he received it and it was not performing the way it should, it was slower than his previous 2.0TSI, VW Germany got involved and had the car replaced.

Good for you, but why would I not check my device for issues when I get it? I think it's foolish not to. All I do is carefully look with my naked eye. It's not like I'm using a magnifying glass. Each time this happens I show my family, who are not into tech whatsoever, and even they see the issues immediately. If I get the product I expect and pay for, I wouldn't be returning.
Sorry but its hard to believe you had to replace 12 iPads due to defects. At that point it is just you looking for things.

Well, I did go through that many. And yes, I did look and check to see if there were any imperfections- why wouldn't I? By the way, wound up buying an iPhone 7 Plus this week to take the place of my iPhone and iPad and the screen is perfect. Now I'm happy.

Porsche bought back a new 911 I had, it had so many things wrong that after 10 months they stopped trying to fix them and bought the car back. I'd owned 9 of them before this one and never had any problem with the others. I waited a couple of years before getting another one, wanted to give them time to sort out the problems.

I purchased 2 and returned 1 in a week before I got the one I originally ordered at Best Buy. I ordered the new ipad 32 gb space grey when BB had the gift card deal as they did not have them in the store for a birthday present. Get an email 2 days later that it will be delayed for a month. I go on the Best Buy website and see they have them and I can buy and pick up at store. Next day they can not find it. They switch it out for a gold one but cant ring it up. They let me have it, but Im worried it may not activate or register and return it the next day. Another hour and its finally returned after I show the email chain from the service showing I picked it up. Get email later in day my first purchased ipad is on its a way and a day late from original delivery date. Got it by the USPS vs any of the delivery services in the mail box. Works fine. Shame Circuit City went to pot.

I am envious. Sweet ride.

Well I picked up my iPad 2017 yesterday. With NUS discount and trading in my iPad 3 it cost me £251.

Perfect straight out the box. Very happy with it.
