I just ordered a Gigabyte GTX680 from Newegg (no sales tax vs. Amazon). When received will ship to MacVidCards for flashing. Then my GTX570 1.25GB will be up for sale.

Lou

Doesn't the card not require flashing? Or would you just rather have the EFI options...

I found a good deal on a used EVGA 570 with 2,5 gigs of memory. Seems to be 2x6pins
Stangely, I have read somewhere those cards are not compatible with mac pro 1,1.

Does anyone have made it work?
Does anyone know why it should not be compatible ?
If it really is not compatible, any advice on what model i should search?
The issue you referred to is about the OpenCL as explained on the first page of this thread, items 15 and 16. The issue was fixed after OS X 10.8.3; since you could not update to Mountain Lion, you may need to do the hack linked in item 16 if you need to use OpenCL.

I'm using VNC and OS X's native screen sharing. They both authenticate and work fine. Video card is a flashed GTX 680.

For some reason I still cannot use iTeleport or Screens via my Mac Pro anymore with my EVGA GTX 780 Superclocked.

However, LogMeIn seems to work perfectly. I upgraded to LogMeIn Ignition and everything runs perfectly. So...I have no idea what is going on...

Perhaps the timing of the problem was just coincidental. If you put your old card back in, does authentication start working again?

Hi everyone and thank you for the useful infos here.

I have read this thread twice so far (english is not my language) and i still have a doubt :

I run a mac pro 1.1- 2x3Ghz - radeon 5770 (pc card flashed by myself in replacement of the loud x1900) - in Os 10.7.5 Lion.

I need to upgrade my video card, i mainly do 3d apps, adobe suite and renders via lux render.

I plan to buy a GTX 570 but as it will probably be the last video card bought for this machine, i would better go bigger than the usual 1,2 G of memory.

i do not plan on buying a flashed card as i don't need the boot screen. If something goes wrong, i put the original mac radeon to access the boot screen and deal with the problem

I do not plan on buying an external power supply for a more massive gtx 580 or a very powerfull GTX 570

Just for the Record :
I bought a used EVGA GTX 570 with 2,5 G DDR 5.
Card has 2x6 pins
System is OS X LION 10.7.5 on a MAC PRO 1.1

Unplugged the old Radeon 5770
plugged the new GTX 570
boot the system (without installing any Nvidia drivers):

Boots like a charm, 2 screens ok (obviously no boot screen until desktop)
OPEN CL : No

Netkas fix done
Reboot
OPEN CL : OK

So if anyone is asking the same question : YES this beauty works on an old mac pro 1.1... :)

Benifits of Flashing a Gtx 570

I just install a non flashed gtx 570 in my Mac Pro 3,1 and everything is working fine.

If I flash the gtx 570 what benifits will I gain.
Will i see a performance increase in openCl or cuda?

Mac Pro 3,1
osx 10.8.5

Typically the only benefits from flashing are:

1) Real boot screens.
2) PCIe 2.0 (5GT/s) speeds in both OS X and Windows.

The latter might have a slight perf impact in OpenCL/CUDA, depending on the workload.

I couldn't seem to find this in a search result, but is there a utility in any way for OSX that's similar to the PC NVidia tool? It would be great to be able to enable or customize certain settings that are not accessible normally.

Thanks, I don't mind the non boot screen.
If the performance increase is negligible I won't bother to flash it.

^^^^Flashing a GTX570 is not an easy task for the novice. It requires the replacement of an an EPROM. This kind of soldering is not a skill I possess.

My MVC modified Gigabyte GTX570 will be up for sale next week.

How many power cables does the GTX 650 need into a Mac Pro 3.1?

How many power cables does the GTX 650 need into a Mac Pro 3.1? I must order it from Us because here in Europe it isn't on sale.
Thanks

Scrumpymacs.co.uk will sell you some cables.

The 650 also just needs one like my GTX660.

You can also google your specific model of GTX 650 to see how many connection it has.

Getting Mac Pro 2008

I've been reading and trying to find the right answer and please forgive me if it's there. I'm getting a 2008 mac pro to replace my 2006 model(RIP). I was considering gettting a nvidia gforce gtx 660 superclocked from my local Micro Center. I saw a post where it worked. I know there will be no boot screen. I do game some on the windows side. Will the 660 run better than my current 5770? I see posts about it not running at 5.0 GTs without being flashed. So with that being said would I be wasting $200 on that card?

quick question:

Do I have enough juice to run both my GTX570 (219w TDP) and my 650ti, in the same machine?

Currently I have just the GTX570 in there, sucking power from: Pcie slot, 1x 6-pin, and i'm filling the other 6-pin power from two Sata ports.

If I plug the 650ti in there, and use the last 6-pin power plug, am I drawing too many watts (allegedly it's 134w) ?

Updated with link to the driver for 12F37 and 12F45, i.e. both versions of 10.8.5.

Hi everyone, first post.
I recently acquired a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 running Lion 10.7.5.
I'm thinking of upgrading to a GTX 560 or 570.

I've read through this post and I'm pretty sure both will work out of the box.

Can someone tell me if the graphics issue with shown on Point 20 of Post #1 is still a problem with these card on Lion? Or was this fixed when Lion was updated to 10.7.5

Thanks
