I plan on upgrading my 2018 11" on the next cycle. I debated getting the 12.9" M1 but I use the tablet in portrait for reading/annotation a lot for work and prefer the smaller/lighter 11". Aside from the screen, the only thing I'm jealous about the 12.9" is the ability to have two apps side-by-side in "full width" mode. The 11" at least one app is squished which is usually fine but I think I'd like that option if I had it.

I used most of my previous iPads (9.7 pro, 10.5 pro, mini 4) in landscape predominanly, but found myself using the 12.9 in lanscape almost all the time when in tablet-mode ... the portrait width is pretty much the 11 landscape, which makes a big difference.

I always have the impression that the 12.9” plus the keyboard which is how the vast majority use it 90% of the time for the price, size and weight you might aswell get a MacBook which will likely cost less and do more.

The 11” is great as a sort of 2 in 1 device, but I would love to see the sizes change from 11” and 12.9” to 12” and 14” as I think these would be perfect for everyone.

I have the 12.9 and use a keyboard case but unlike with a laptop, I can detach the iPad and have a standalone tablet. I wouldn't want a larger size than 12.9.

I expect you're overestimating the number of 12.9" iPad users actually using theirs with a Magic Keyboard.

Also, a MacBook is not an iPad. I bought a 12.9" iPad because I wanted a large screen tablet, not because I want a laptop replacement. I know several others who've done the same (used for Netflix, ebooks, web browsing, social media, etc).

The 11" is already at the very limit of what fits in my purses so nope, this change is far from being perfect for me.

And sadly, justifying the purchase of two iPads in the context of my other hobby addictions isn't possible ;)

I've done the multiple iPad life, and there is a saying in pro football that if you have two quarterbacks, then you have none. And I found that if I had more than one iPad, there was always a "favorite" I would grab more than the others, making me wonder why I spent thousands on iPads that just sit there.

So I am down to the tweener, the 11. Small and light enough to use as a tablet, but still a good size to use as a laptop in keyboard mode. Reminds me of the old netbooks.

I had a really nice looking 2010 Samsung NF310 Netbook. Performance really sucked.
Just looked it up; pretty cool exterior! Holy bezels on the inside, but of course that wasn’t uncommon back then. (Really makes you appreciate what Apple was able to do with the titanium MacBooks.)

Added some accessories! I wanted to take it to the gym but was afraid to do so naked (the tablet, not me--well, also me, but you know) so I bought the smart folio. Overpriced, of course, but was the best option I saw. In addition to the protection it works great as an elevated typing surface. Also brought over the pencil from the big iPad I sent in today for the trade. I guess that makes this purchase official ? Still loving the size! I think a 10” in the Pro style would be great as well, but it’s hard to complain about this size.

For sure. The redundancy thing always bother me to a certain extent. There‘s really nothing wrong with having a variety of devices with some amount of overlap between them, but when I’m in that situation there’s always a part of me that‘s like ’hey, we should really be more efficient here.’ Sometimes I listen to that voice, other times I go and buy a gadget I don’t really need ?‍♂️

I am totally with you here. I try to live as much of a minimalist existence as I can, but I totally ruin it with ownership of multiple devices. In a perfect world, I would only have one, or maybe two devices at the most.

Amen! I’ve long wanted The One Device To Rule Them All, but I’m not sure it will ever exist, or if I’d be happy with just the one when the time arrives. Devices that change size, like folding ones, are really interesting to me. I’m looking forward to seeing how that category progresses over the next few years. Who knows, the perfect device could be right around the corner. Until then I’ll keep telling myself I don’t need every cool new product, buying a bunch of them anyways, and then selling them later on in a desire to downsize and simplify. It’s a great cycle! ?‍♂️

I currently have 3 iPad's (I know!!), 2020 11" iPad Pro, 2021 12.9" and 2021 mini. Love them all but if I had to choose only one it'd be the 11". I've always loved the mini and when working in the office used to be able just to throw in my bag. The 12.9 now just sits in my home office and is used mainly just to watch Netflix, Sky Sports etc. The 11" is used mainly when sitting on the sofa. As I say, I love them all but 11" if I had to pick just one.

It’s nice to have options! (Sometimes.) Really seems like 11” is a good size for many folks. I used to have the 10.5” iPad Pro and at the time thought that was an ideal size. And now a few years later I feel the same about the 11”, which makes me think that 10-11 is a sweet spot.

Does the lower refresh screen on the mini bother you after using the Pros?

I had the 10.5 and now the 2021 12.9 and would not go back to the smaller screen myself but it's great that Apple provides the option. I also have the Mini 6 and don't have any problems with the screen refresh.

Without even reading past your device list it was pretty obvious to me/for me, that there's certainly one glaring issue - all devices are too close in display size as well as MBA and iPP kind of overlapping with each other especially with touch enabled Windows laptop thrown in.

Not at all. Maybe it’s me but don’t notice it.
