I've used the iPhone 3GS, 4S & 5 and the HTC One and now the S4 and I agree that the smothness of iOS is hard to top but I want more than a perfectly smooth OS. I want features and options, something that iOS stopped doing a while ago. I want a camera that offers tons of modes and features. I want the ability to customize my home screen and I want to be ability to use new technology like NFC.

I agree with you, and thats what drove me to the "other side" so to speak. iOS 7 is bringing some of those, but who knows how the final product will look like. If not good, Apple will keep driving guys like you and me to the other side, and eventually we will find something that wins us over. Few years ago, I would have laughed at the thought of using an android, now I will try and test their phone and who knows... the new Motorola sounds pretty promising and might alleviate some of my HTC issues.

But iPhone scrolling is slow which takes the shine off the smoothness.

Also disagree on everything except battery. Most of your issues are personal preferences but one standout iOS has over the competition is battery life because it does much less in the background than android.

Charge an iPhone all the way up and leave it alone for a few hours and it'll still be at 100%. Do the same with an android and it'll probably be at around 92%

I'll say I experienced that with the iPad, but there is no way your still at 100% or even 99% after a couple hours unless your on airplane mode.

The only thing I would suggest is looking at other ROMs or a conversion to the Google Play Edition. This changes the HTC dramatically, especially the later option. I really didn't like Sense on the HTC One either, but after conversion to the Google Play Edition I am much happier with the phone overall.

The only things I now miss from iOS are iMessages and the Ringer toggle switch :) I run the HTC One alongside my Macs and also an iPad with no problems or integration concerns.

- IPhone 5C coming right up - owner

- Does it have a 13 megapixel camera, quad core CPU, 3GB RAM and full HD screen too? - buyer

I had my iPhone 4S for 2 days at 1%

You mean down to 1% after two days, or a lose of 1% after two days?

Seriously I have no reason to lie. I can leave my iPhone off the charger after charging (connected to wifi) and it will still be at 100% after a couple of hours as long as I don't turn on the screen.

I can understand that since you said connected to wifi. Any data pulls/push would not use the carrier network while on wifi.

I prefer TouchWiz now, but previously I preferred pure Android.

I have a link here that does a good job of explaining it.

http://m.androidauthority.com/touchwiz-better-than-stock-android-215634/

From the article:

The best part is that all these apps are supported by Samsung itself, which means there’s no need to worry about an independent developer dropping support for a certain app that’s still full of bugs and may or may not work.

I really REALLY disagree with this point. I downloaded an app from the Google play store that didn't work the way I wanted it, so I emailed the developer and asked them to tweak some things for me. And you know what? They did. A day or two later I received a custom build of the app that functions the way I wanted it.

Anyway, we could go back and forth on this whole stock vs. skinned issue, but I'd be lying if I said that Sense 5.0 didn't have its appeal. I just find stock Android more appealing. In my opinion, stock Android is the closest that you can get to the "iPhone" experience as you can get.

I think that depends on the phone. There've been days at work when it's so busy I don't get to check my One for hours and hours and the battery only drops two percent or so. Everything syncing as normal.

I lost it here. Lol (literally).

I def. believe this. I saw this too when I had an iPhone. But I also read (forgot where) that iOS doesn't start showing the droppage after a while. True or not, I can't recall from where I heard this.

Sort of like how the gas meter in a car doesn't start dropping until after 50 miles; you weren't running on full for 50 miles. It was just the meter reading mechanism.

I say this for the iPhone because it stays at 100% for a pretty long time even if the phone is in use.

Something like that.

i'm sure it depends on more than just the phone. my htc one will drop a couple percent per hour even in airplane mode with nothing in the background. my iphone 5 will drop a couple percent in a day.

likewise, my iphone could be at 80%, and i could not touch it for hours and hours and the percentage will drop minimally.

Thank you, I might try the conversion, see how it works. I have absolutely no complaints about the integration, I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to switch over, I was up and running fast.

Over the weekend, one of my friends helped me get iOS 7 beta, on my old 4S, and now I am back and loving it. Notifications are now significantly better, and this is sooo smooth all around. I can go on and on about what makes it better, but I am sure most of you already know by now. In conclusion, grass is not really greener on the other side, we've had it so good with the iPhone, I think sometimes we forget how good it is! Not perfect, but definitely better than the HTVC one.

Actually I don't know what makes it better. Please explain it to us.

Strange. Unused, my HTC One will drop 2-3% throughout the day while I'm at work

I was trying a galaxy s2 and left my iPhone 4S on the table with full battery without touching it, just one time a day I checked the battery, it hold almost 2 weeks, and when I checked it again and it was at 1%, I left it like that, checked next day and it still was at 1%, then the next day morning still 1% and it died somewhere later

That's not mathematically possible according to Apple which claims standby on the 4S is up to 200hrs. That would be just around 1 week, give or take a day. You had to have the carrier data or signal turned off or in airplane mode in order to achieve close to 2 weeks.

I never experienced that long of a standby on the 4S.

I had no SIM card inserted as it was on the galaxy.. I was also shocked especially on the 1% part.. I remember seeing it the second day and laughing by myself like a maniac (I found it incredible). Wifi, push and email were as I left them, on

TBH, battery life in this day and age IMHO is overblown, I'm sat at my desk with at least 5 plug sockets free and a spare Android phone charger, my car outside has a phone charger that work from the cigarette lighter, if I am out in the field (for more than a day) I take a cheap portable power supply, in these times, one must be very remote to worry about charging a phone. I have my Galaxy S4 with all the bells and whistles activated and it easily lasts all day.

I will try to the Moto X as well, I think that might be a really good solution, plus the size might be better. I think I would have liked the Samsung more since it has the Home button, that was my other choice but the HTC's design and fit are superior in my opinion.

----------

I honestly never paid much attention to the smoothness factor, but to me, it became apparent once I started using them, and I kept going back and forth to make sure I wasn't crazy. Wife has an iPhone 5, so I used that to compare as well.

Just adding another vote for giving the moto x a try. I personally think that most people coming from an iphone would prefer stock or as clock to stock android as possible. You do not have skins and it feels very familiar. As others mentioned, the google play editions are good phones, but there is no way to get them cheap. If you want to test the waters and have an upgrade the moto x is probably a great phone to look at.

Can we merge all of the 'I pretended to give an Android phone a chance, but came up with a tenuous excuse to go back to iPhone' threads into one pile of asinine nonsense?
