I thought I'd chime [excuse the pun] in with my experience: I have just upgraded from a space grey aluminium S4 to a silver stainless steel S6 and am very happy with the change. I would be happy to elaborate should you be interested in my thoughts.
Thanks. Did you notice the weight difference right away?

I noticed the forums no longer merges posts made right after each other now

True but I think one would have to focus on that spefic negitive part rather than the mostly positive post. This is a tech forum though so some people will do that I guess.
I certainly will focus on the negative part of a post if I see it but not because this is a tech forum but because I deal with that sort of thing daily with work etc. If someone sends me an email for feedback/advice but has a dig also, they generally don’t get the answer they were looking for. :)

It's not a Series 6 feature, but a watchOS7 feature.
It that really? I thought that was part of the new and better, always on display. When I had my S5 during the beta testing, what I described was not possible

The weight difference is very slight.

The polished stainless steel and sapphire crystal display look and feel very different in comparison with the aluminium case and screen of my series 4. The difference is hard to convey in pictures alone. I have the original (Series 0) Apple Watch in polished stainless steel, aluminium S3 and S4 and now, again, the S6 in polished stainless steel. I realise that this is a very subjective opinion which is likely to attract flamers but I have missed the stainless steel and sapphire crystal combination as, IN MY OPINION WHICH IS NOT NECESSARILY VALID FOR ANYONE ELSE, they look and feel better.

The always-on display is really a very nice change in comparison to the series 4. Once you get used to it, it is indeed very hard to go back.

Apart from these considerations, the main improvement over the series 4 is actually in connection with battery life. I got 32 hours out of my S6 watch yesterday - with one 30-minute exercise session and a lot of playing around with it over the course of the day, installing new apps and creating new watch faces, etc. This was with the always-on-display always on.

I think it's a worthy jump but I went back to series 5 after finding a Titanium in like new condition with applecare+ until 2022. Cancelled my series 6 Ti order which would've been $1200 vs $600.. I miss the faster charging and slightly longer battery life but that's literally it.

Screen brightness isn't an issue for me nor is the performance increase to warrant double the cost

Whenever i wear my stainless steel mechanical watches I instantly notice how heavy they are by comparison to an Apple Watch. It’s such a nice feeling wearing an aluminium AW for me now and I prefer the lighter feel (never used to). I suppose the stainless Apple watches aren’t going to be heavy in the grand scheme because there is so much material milled out of them, it’s almost a thin shell. I would imagine the aluminium models have slightly thicker cross sections due to the mechanical differences between the two and the fact aluminium is a third of the weight of 316 stainless.

Just curious - how did you get from the $799/$849 S6 Titanium to $1200?

... and for clarity for other readers - the only screen brightness difference between series5 and series6 is with the range of the Always On Display -- S6 can be noticeably brighter in AOD outdoors in sunlight after the S5's AOD brightness is maxed out. Otherwise they'll be the same. As you note though, that may not make a difference to many/some folks - depends on the usage.

Mind sharing where you found this deal?

Not a bad move to be honest. The only thing you will have to deal with, is the severe deappreciation even more, especially as the S5 becomes more widespread used leading into the holidays m. Plus, if you’re somebody that upgrades yearly like most of us on here do, you probably won’t fetch much with the launch of S7. Anyways, in terms of the major differences between the S5 and S6, It’s fairly incremental, but does have some decent internal tweaked improvements with the battery longevity, AOD brightness, ect.

I do buy every year, but this was a hell of a deal. I sold the titanium band for an additional $100 on reddit. I'll probably keep this even if I get the S7 next year which i'm 95% sure i'll do.

I feel like apple sped up the animations in watch os7. I’m not sure if anyone could notice a speed difference between the two.

I swap my Ceramic to Hermès and except for the case they feel exactly the same. Maybe the Hermès is slightly brighter outside but both are very hard to see in bright sunlight.

Yes, I’ve noticed this on my series 5 when I updated to watchOS 7. In particular the animation when you press the crown to get into list/grid view.

Yep me too. I think the animation on the S6 seems quicker and smoother than the S4/S5. That S6 processor is supposed to be 20% faster and i think its noticeable.

The weight difference of 9 grams is equal to the weight of 9ml of water, which is about the volume of a large finger.
SS AW weight is like carrying a finger sized column of water on your wrist with an aluminum AW.

One thing I noticed about my AW6 vs AW5 is that bluetooth connectivity with my Airpods (Pro and non Pro) is much better with my AW6. Connects to the Airpods much more quickly and the connection is more stable. Prior to AW6 it was always a battle getting my Aipods paired properly prior to a run.

I’ve just gotten my hands on my Blue 44 Aluminum S6 upgrade to my S5, and what is immediately noticeable is the speed at which webpages load. On my S5 it simply wasn‘t worth the wait. Now I actually feel like I can browse the web on a modern device with modern speeds. Pretty transformative, but many of the unimaginative here won’t see what the big deal is...

The much brighter screen while the Always On is... Less On, is noticeably brighter. I almost felt the S5’s Always On, while phenomenal in its own right, needed to be much brighter while dimmed to be taken seriously. S6 isn’t all the way there towards an evenly bright Always On that wouldn’t even need to dim at all in light, but it’s getting us closer, and immediately increases daily quality of life.

The 20% faster S6 processor, some may say is not necessary, or barely noticeable. Again, these people are either liars, or they really don’t pay attention. Sure, maybe Apple stock apps are fast enough on either the S4 or S6 (your S5 has the same processor as the S4 from 2018), but Just Press Record was noticeably laggy even on my S5.

No longer. And it’s fun to see it zip.

All this in the first hour of usage. What a joy. Can’t wait to upgrade to the S7. Apple Watch updates are like going from iPhone 2G to 3G to 4G to 5G all in the span of 4 years.

See photo for a representation of how the blue aluminum reflects light. It still looks quite dark! Only the power of direct sunlight can expose this baby’s blue shine.
