Fuji x-100f instead of iPhone X

I have an iPhone 6s and was eagerly looking forward to the new iPhone this year. I thought it might be big. Apple first released the 8 series and it is a copy/paste of the 6s without the headphone jack. An all new iPhone they say I would not be able to look in the mirror if I replaced 6s with 6sss, especially that it is still working really nicely (did not move to iOS 11). I had a dedicated budget to get the X, but there is one thing I cannot get over: face id. I will simply not going to let a phone scan my face, period. The only reason why I was thinking about the new iPhone is a better camera and a better screen (finally OLED). Practically speaking, iPhone X would not make a single positive change in my life. It is a super expensive devise with a lot of compromises. So I said fo myself...where I want to go in life is to spend a lot less time stearing at screens and want to be out more and more doing something that is making me love the REAL world around me. I am a passionate photographer (www.dylikowski.com) and decided to use the iPhone X budget to purchase a camera that will be always with me as it is compact - Fujifilm x-100F. I travel a lot around the world, so I think the release of iPhone X helped me to see a bigger problem that was developing inside of me...attraction to the next big thing of the Apple marketing machine. But because the X is full of compromises, it is a lot easier to shift focus to something else entirely, not just another new phone.

The X-100 is a very special camera in all of its iterations. You’ll have a blast with it. Personally I have an X-Pro2 in my not too distant future.

great Fuji camera! made similar decision last summer with Nikon P900 for nature photography. wonderful birds and butterflies! will never give it up.

fell off the wagon and pre-ordered iPhone X but P900 safe and secure.

I woule say for 2018 and maybe 2019 I am safe with iPhone 6s. It has two things I need: touch id and headphone jack. I am affraid that as of next year, there will be no choice, other than android. Unless they will also eliminate headphone jack and touch id. Maybe we shoul move to a more simple life...but the generation is phone/social media addicted already

What is irrational about it? Having both or not having both. It is a certain philosophy of life. We all go through different stages and we all start seeing life in a different way. I am not visiting forums frequently, but as I was anticipating a new iPhone, I went to read some threads here. It pushed even further away from this iPhone. Just read threads. People cannot sleep, do not go to work only to preorder a new phone. People write day how the handle the mist difficult time of their life waiting for pre-order and list day things they do day by day to handle the void. It is scary. Actually....life changes when you spend some times outside the USA, somewhere in the wilderness or a different country. You start noticing how deep is the consumptionism mentality embedded in people's minds. So...I only shared my experience. I trust that it will make me healthier, happier and open-minded but, this is just me.

I have an X-T2 and switched from Canon. No regrets. I would say however, if the X100F is X-Trans III (I think it is) then I highly recommend Iridient X-Transformer for converting your Fuji RAF files to DNG. It's much better than LR, C1 etc.

Not wanting your face scanned I was talking about. And how you can put that and being open minded in the same sentence it truly beyond me. Quite funny actually.

Right are we still in the iPhone forum or have you switched to religion/politics section? You do know that people make corporations...And you do realise you made the comments in context of face scanning which you ever since seem to be avoiding and now truly go off on a tangent...Your prerogative off course but it would be useful if you recognise what you are doing, always helpful on a discussion forum.

For what it’s worth, I’m still loving my X100S - sometimes I wish it was just a tad wider for landscape shots, but if there is a person in the photo, it’s often the perfect lens for that. I think you will enjoy it tremendously.

Recently took a few new cameras for a spin after not even looking in that direction for almost 5 years, and I must say, my old X100s is still running circles around most interchangeable lens systems in the same price range in terms of ease of use and IQ.

I recently made a very similar decision, although nothing to do with face ID (which is sandboxed). I had a 7 plus and that was my main camera and I spent a fair amount of time on the phone doing all sorts of mundane time wasting things.

So I sold my 7 plus and got an SE, it's a great device for being a phone.

I then went and bought a Fuji X-E2S and a 35mm F2 lens. The images I get from this camera blows away anything a smart phone can do, and it allows me to just focus on taking pictures and keep my SE away for phone duties. This distraction free way of taking photos is very refreshing, with the added benefit of taking the best pictures of my memories with my family. It's also not a large camera, despite having an APS-C sensor.

I would have suggested taking a look at Fuji X-E3 and the 23mm f2 which is the same price/size as the X100F, with the added benefit of changing lenses later down the line as I'm sure the temptation will come.

Very wise thinking. Same logic. I want to get my lie fully back from all the vittual reality thing. I have a FF Canon system and many lenses, so I am not tempted I like x-100f because of the optical viewfinder. The other option is Leica, but the cost is slightly different

I have a Fuji X100s, a Nikon dslr with an assortment of lenses, 2 flashes and an iPhone 7 (non-plus). There is a significant step up in terms of quality from the iPhone to the Fuji, especially when it is darker or you need to isolate foreground from background. Nothing changes if you buy any other smartphone now or in the foreseeable future, because of the huge difference in sensor size. That includes the iPhone 8, iPhone X and any Android smartphone out there, it's just physics.

For a lot of things, the iPhone is alright or perhaps better: I sometimes like making panoramas or take videos. X100-series cameras are made for stills, not videos. For everything else, I prefer my other cameras. The Fuji has the same sensor size as most dslrs, so it offers comparable image quality in a much smaller package. I love that about it. In fact, I rarely take my dslr with me anymore. Unless I am on vacation with my wife, because she will steal the Fuji from me.

Fuji makes some of the best lenses on the market bar none. I have a nice range of Fuji primes that I use on an X-E2 and the images some of them produce are simply magical. Very Leica looking shots with amazing, almost 3D appearance.

Fact is that no phone with a tiny lens and tiny sensor can ever produce the kinds of images that a dedicated camera like the Fuji X series can.
