i personally hate the current imac designs...i loved the G4's..but the G5's are lame.....Can anybody make a few mockups of future imac designs and please say your favorite imac design (go G4 and fruit colored!!!!!!!!)......so please make some mock ups

And you can just say what your would like in the next imac...and which one was your favorite...

I agree with you. I liked the G4 design much better. Too bad they moved to the G5 design. However, if you are going to have people post pictures this may have to be in the pictures forum.

I think the current machines are easily one of the most attractive form factors they've ever introduced. Small footprint, minimal wiring, very pretty.

They do have many pluses.

I would like to see forward facing speakers vice downward ones. Also would like to see less space at the bottom of the screen. Less space and forward facing speakers would make it look better.

There is a good set of connectors. Would like to see something located nearer to the front, or side, for ease of access.

Of course thinner would be nice! ;)

The current design is the inevitable evolution of the original iMac - look at it from the side. Wonderful.

Just took delivery of a 17" last week, so not in the market for next three years, but in the meantime if there was any way to continue to shrink the enclosure I'd happily buy a repalcement in 2009.

I like the current design but I agree with sushi, that the bottom section could be made smaller. A larger display size would be nice too, maybe 23" or 24", but otherwise I wouldn't really change it.

As for thinner... I personally favour the slightly thicker design of the older (Rev A and B) iMac G5s, as those were completely flat at the back so could be wall-mounted. It's a shame they changed this part of the case design for the iSight and Intel models. If they could make them thinner AND with a flat back suitable for wall-mounting, that would be ideal!

I'm pretty sure 16:9 is not a square.

Good point.

Thinner and flat would be best! :)

The Flower G4 was nice for sure. Only thing I really didn't like was the CD tray as it could easily hit the keyboard. And I wished that the speakers were build into the sides of the display -- fewer wires. Other than that I like them.

On a side note. I wonder how long the arm will last on the G4 iMacs. The typical Mac seems to last longer than the typical PC. Will the arms last 5-8-10 years? I wonder? They do seem strong and well put together. Hopefully the older ones won't have their screens slowly sink to the bottom over time. That would be terrible.

I can picture a room full of G4 iMacs that need some watering...

What a terrible sight that would be.

The arm seems very well engineered so I don't think that can happen. Let's hope not.

They do not sink if you have a good one...

I own a 17" 1Ghz G4 iMac. Love it. Best machine ever. I'm not a fan of the new iMac design. I love that my LCD is just that--an LCD. It floats in mid air.

Go back and watch the 2002 keynote. Steve does nothing but rip these computer-behind-the-LCD designs.

I'd like to see a combination of these two machines in the next iMac. Basically take a mini or a MacBook and squeeze it into the silver base of the iMac. Make the LCD as thin as possible.

I guess what I want is a laptop's bottom, minus the keyboard, connected to a swing arm with a 20" LCD. To do this, they'd probably have to use laptop parts which will increase the price.

Any Photoshop experts want to mock this up?

I like the concept of the G4 but I love my Intel 20" much better :D
I use to have a deep desk for my eMac, G4 iMac, had a G5 iMac Rev.B but now with my Intel I bought a smaller desk (Yes I could do the same with the G5 as well). Everything fits nicer as I'm in a small space to start with but I can't really see a "Major" update to the case of the current iMac except trimming the extra off the bottom. Also as stated before a larger screen, 23-24" would give them the space to trim the bottom or depth of it.
I really don't think it matters much as I really like the iMac and will always have one no matter what it looks like, well as long as it's thin ;)

The current imac design is so freaking ugly to me. I would never buy one simply on the fact I think they're hideious. I too want an intel G4!

Can anyone explain why the 1.83ghz iMac is so much bigger than a 1.83ghz Macbook?

iMac has a larger HD, but no battery. Otherwise, they have essentially the same innards, right?
