Future imac designs?

I'm actually thinking of buying a 20" iMac, 400GB harddrive and 2GB memory. I just love the design of the current iMac.

Offtopic: Do I void the warranty if I install more memory or upgrade the harddrive manually?

Personally, I would like to see them use a translucent rounded casing like the iMac G4 and place it on a zero footprint base with the computer behind the screen like the iMac G5. Make the whole thing as thin as possible (even if that means using a merom processor) and remove the chin....

The only downside of this design would be that it doesn't have the cool adjustable lamp arm that the iMac G4 did...

No on the memory part .... Yes on the HardDrive side .. if 250GB aint big enough go externally Hdds..

Yes .. but you'll sol on the warranty issues if they do happen

the iMac uses sata drives for the harddrive connection not IDE .. sata drives are easier to install and use ..

A 17" LCD will do that. Unless you are meaning "thicker".

In which case. The Hard Drive is a standard 3.5" meaning it is much thicker than 2.5". It may not have a battery, but it has an internal power supply.

Internal power supply, bigger display. Less density makes cooling easier too.

I asked same question is another thread. 1: The iMac has a larger backlight for the display, and a larger screen. 2: The iMac has an internal powersupply, which fills more than a battery. 3: The 3.5" HDD is so much bigger than the 2.5" in the MB. 4: The iMac hasn't been redesigned since iSight G5. They might wanna be able to fit a Conroe in when it comes.

My favorite iMac design is the G4. The "lamp" look it has is just so cool. Also the fact that you can easily pivot and rotate the screen is a big plus to me. I don't own one, but I have used it more than a few times at school. The G5 design is really sweet, but like someone else mentioned in this thread (I forgot the name), I really wish there was less space under where the display is located. Other than that, though, I really like it. I have an iMac G3 and love the fruity look of it. I just need to use it more...

As for thinner... I personally favour the slightly thicker design of the older (Rev A and B) iMac G5s, as those were completely flat at the back so could be wall-mounted. It's a shame they changed this part of the case design for the iSight and Intel models. If they could make them thinner AND with a flat back suitable for wall-mounting, that would be ideal!

But if they should be mounted flat on a wall, then the cables can no longer be connected in the back of the machine.

Why would Apple redesign it? I know it could'a been made smaller with Core Duo inside, but as I stated before, unless the new iMac are gonna use Merom, it needs to stay as now to be able to hold a Conroe...

I still want to see a brushed Aluminium iMac like the MacBook Pros, PowerBooks and G5 PowerMac.

If Apple ever released a black, clear or brushed aluminium iMac I would be buying it in a second.

And one more thing add some tail fins to lower wind resistance, some racing stripes to make it look sharp and some fluffy dice..... that would look totally sweet

Obviously the screen is larger!

When I said 'bigger', I meant overall bulk - depth, width, height, weight. ie why does it have to be any bigger than the keyboard half of a MB, without the keyboard and with a 17" screen stuck on it.

Anyway, question answered now.
