The only reason that the Mac Pro 5,1 is supported in Mojave (if support for the machine actually ships) is because Apple feels bad about screwing over their Mac Pro customers repeatedly over and over and over again. If there is a future for the Mac Pro it is coming next year and you should buy one and hold on to it tight. If Apple's comes out with yet another sealed up box then it will be a serious time to consider Windows 10. It will no doubt be pricey brace yourself for that but as long as it is expandable

Can’t seriously understand how people don’t see that Apple soon moving to their own CPUs and GPUs has been planned for years, and makes perfect sense.

Rumor or not.

The plan was to kill off the Mac Pro line and have the new iMac Pro be the only choice for the "pro" desktop. They built that machine around Intel and AMD.

I don't see how an 11th hour U-turn to not kill off the Mac Pro line after all negates the above. Hell, there's a high chance the new Mac Pro ends up being effectively a headless 2nd-gen iMac Pro with a socketed CPU and a token PCIe slot.

The only headless generation that i know is Tim Cook.

apple has told me they usually block updates to the computers at around the 7 year mark. but i'm not sure if this is completely accurate or not.
There's new versions & there's updates. Apple just released a security update for El Capitan which I installed on my 2008 Mac Pro 3,1.

Hi there, I was wondering if any of you Mac Pro enthusiasts have any guesses for how long we'll be able to install new macOS releases.
After a few more days and some more news, I'm afraid that the answer will be

All the posts about graphics card support for the cMP under Mojave foreshadow a sad ending to the cMP. If Apple committed to a UEFI firmware upgrade for the 4,1/5,1 - there could be hope. Recommending a couple of mid-range AMD GPUs without boot screens is insulting - but if the cMP got a UEFI firmware upgrade most current cards would have a boot screen. (Note that Apple uses "EFI", an early, deprecated version of the updated standard UEFI that was released in in 2005.)

Metal will be the sword that kills the cMP.

And Apple has brought promises of major support features, and had them in beta - only to drop them from the final product. (Yahoo! for "carbon64".) Don't bet your income on Mojave on the cMP.

IF you want the latest Apple OSX releases, the best advice would be to eWaste your cMP systems ASAP, while some people not paying attention will give you a good price.

If you disagree, you must be looking at things through
