Install this:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

I checked before (standard install) and after this install. There was a CPU decrease of about 70% when watching youtube video in HD. That should help, the 11" shouldn't have any problem displaying HD content, even on a 27" screen. At least mine hasn't.

here's the screen i get when i click on that link you provided:

it looks like i already have the latest version? thx for your help.:apple: because it most definitely isn't as smooth as playback on my 13 ultimate. my 11 ult has the latest oS and is all but a week old.

Hmm. When I download it it says the plugin is for "Safari, Firefox, Opera". That probably means the Chrome plugin is a separate file. Maybe they haven't sorted the hardware support in the Chrome plugin for mac yet?

Try installing the plugin in Safari and run the HD video again, and see if you get better results.

installed it on safari...

-27" ACD
-1080P youtube full screen playback of the jamie foxx vid

definitely drops frame rates compared to the 13 ultimate. my 11" ulti doesn't have anything special done to it. just the latest 10.6.7 OS and chrome.

when I use chrome to view 1080p content on youtube it uses loads more resources than safari

Chrome has 3 separate processes (chrome Helper) all in low 20s and sometimes 30s. but Safari just has one process in the 20s-30s

Why are you guys even watching YouTube in flash? Use html5.

Software and electronics can outlast the rest of the device. An 11" will go longer than a 13": More sturdy, less flimsy.

I just ordered an 11-incher for non-game use: the traditional "big 3" office-oriented apps plus a light DB (Bento), Aperture for my iPhone pix, and etc etc.

I was looking for a small form-factor that will run "lots-cooler" than my MBPro 15 whilst in the lap. Lots-cooler beats future-proof by a wide margin.

had both the 11 ulti and 13 ulti for about two weeks.

dumped the 11. nice unit, but gonna wait for the refresh to see if it can handle youtube HD powering 27" ACD with no stutter. the 13 definitely feels snappier overall. the 11 doesn't use its fan nearly as much as the 13 not that it's a problem on the 13.

e.g. google earth, but then google earth doesn't perform as well on the 11 as on the 13.

I love my 13 inch Ultimate MBA, too. By the way, I assume you would agree that the claim, "An 11" will go longer than a 13": More sturdy, less flimsy," is, to put it gently, unconvincing? Except for the slight difference in size between the two models they appear to be identical to me.

gswat, if i replied to every single thread i ran across that i found nonsensical bordering on me wanting to seriously ask the poster "what makes you think this way?", i'd probably be banned by now.

based on my 2 weeks of having both (i see the benefits/concerns in each of 'em), it's really a personal call on what's better for you. the typically trend i see in online forums like this is to put one down while praising the other tit for tat v. looking at the overall body of work.

-the 11 isn't that much more portable than the 13

-the 13's resolution wasn't that much more roomier than the 11

-the 13 isn't that much faster than the 11

-the 11 doesn't run that much cooler than the 13

-the battery life is close enough to have me not really notice since thankfully i don't stare at my screen for hours on end personal or professional use

so, yes, i agree with you. they're a lot more similar than they are different. thus the reason why i find all the arguing, nitpicking (it is what it is) pretty silly, but sometimes entertaining. i understand that we are in an enthusiasts forum so the details matter. so in a sense, i respect that, but don't choose to totally participate in it cuz at the end of the day, it'll be out with the old, in with the new.

the keepin' up with the jonses disease is rife in the developed world.

BENJMNS -- I, too, admire the 11 inch MBA and seriously considered buying one before finally deciding to get a 13 inch Ultimate. Although I agree that we see a lot of silly posts at MacRumors, I couldn't resist commenting on the fanciful, to me at least, claim that the 11 inch MBA was somehow more sturdy and less flimsy that the 13 inch model. Say what? A lot of the nonsensical posts we see here are hardy perennials that keep getting recycled by the clueless. The claim that the 13 inch MBA is "flimsy," though, was new to me. In fact, I am still shaking my head.:)
