the emac doesn't have a handle because its fifty friggin pounds, and should not be lifted with one arm, but cradled in both.

the iBook doesn't have a handle now because people razzed the hello kitty purse/toilet seat clam shell design (which I still prefer ergonomically, but doesn't stack with a set of books as well)

The g4 is a different case (no pun intended). Those handles are useful. That french mock up has nothing to grab the thing by to move it unless you tipped it over into your arms.

At the edges it has an iPod look to it. Note where front and top meet sides, etc.

Would be interesting to see the PM follow the iPod design...sort of silvery white, very minimalist...

How do you know there's not a classic iMac type handle on the top (exactly where it should be)?

Maybe there is no need for ventilation under the case (maybe it contains a new chip that generates less heat).

Maybe the speaker is on top, too.

Maybe the knobs to open the case are on the right side, not shown.

Could be...

i like the emac now that i have seen the thing...it's footprint is smaller than a 17 inch screen would suggest

and the fifty pounds must refer to the shipping weight

i am no weight lifter, but the computer is not that hard to cart around...only slightly heavier than the g3 crt imac...the secret is in the ultra short neck crt vs the full size neck/tube on the original g3 crt imac

the emac should have a handle for those who like it

having carried many hundred of computers, peripherals, and monitors...cradling any equipment close to the body is still the best way to transport anything

a handle carrying anything over fifteen pounds can pull a muscle if lifted wring or swung while walking

i still wish ibook had some sort of handle

i didn't look at it that closely, but the emac can come with a riser stand which makes it tiltable to have the best view

the point twenty five dot pitch screen is very beautiful...this is the computer apple should have released a long time ago...it would have sold like crazy and they could have asked fifteen hundred for it

but now the lcd imac totally outclasses the emac but there is a three hundred dollar price differntial between the two

if the emac goes down to $899 (or lower) on the educationl price, my guess is that the crt g3 imac is dead

I probably was being unclear in my post above about handles, speakers, etc. I was referring to the french pic of a PM case.

BTW, in light of an iPod motif, might it actually look pretty nice?

Double BTW, Jef your comment about the eMac: I totally agree. By all rights this should be selling like crazy. I think there are two reasons it may not be: 1 - they need to ditch the classic iMac so the eMac will stand alone. 2 - The perception is that the chip is too slow. From a marketing standpoint (I cannot state this strongly enough) Apple has got to realize that most potential switchers are not going to buy a sub 1000 mhz computer! To do so makes one feel stupid. Heck Celeron is at 1.9 ghz now! I realize we are talking about perception here, but that is what drives purchases. Apple needs to get every machine at 1 ghz or more real fast And I am tired of people saying it can't be done. It's a change that would utilize existing parts. If the PM goes to 1.4 ghz now and with DDR, there is enough space below to bump Imac and eMac to 1 ghz at the same time. I say Apple should quit strategizing about relative product placement and just give people waht they clearly want: 1 ghz+.
