I'm really impressed with this. In fact I'll be picking one up, but gonna keep my GS3. But who knows, a few people at my office who also have a Note insist I won't want anything else after I have a Note.

Video

Are you going to use the note taking features? If not, it's only going to be an incredibly minor upgrade over the S3.

Actually I'm just being greedy. I won't be replacing my S3. If anything, I know the wifey will want this, but it'll take me to buy it. lol.

I just don't understand how you could ever shoot a quick text or make a quick call. Using that thing on a daily basis would be cumbersome.

It's a paradigm shift in the way the iPad was.

Just as the iPad was devised to sit between a phone and computer so this device sits between a phone and tablet.

I made 6 calls on my iPhone last month but watched over 30 hours of movies so for me would be ideal.

It all depends on an individual's usage habits, I can take photos with my iPad it's nice to have that functionality but it's not something I do often. Likewise the Note 2 has phone functionality which is great but it's not something I would utilise a lot. It's portability as a movie player with great screen capability is what interests me, and is primarily how I see the device, all the other things it is capable of are a bonus.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what do you do? Are you a student, traveling businessman? Do you work? I don't understand how you can make 6 phone calls and watch over 30 hours of movies on your smartphone in one month. But yeah, if you need your phone to be a great portable DVD player, I'd say this is the one for you.

And I don't know. A tablet that sits between your phone and computer is already enough niches, I don't think the world wants a device that sits between your phone and tablet.

Sure I work in IT. I have 8 contacts on my iPhone and 3 apps.

I did initially go through a spate of downloading apps then found they were either dumb or just never got used so ended up deleating most of them.

The commute to work or at lunch is when I watch an episode of Breaking Bad or some such..which is why a bigger screen is great. Slipping a Note 2 into my pocket and going down the pub is much easier than taking an iPad, though I do intend on keeping the iPad.

As I mentioned before its down to the individual to decide what's right for them, to analyse their usage against the functionality of the device.

I will still be very interested in the W8 phones with a 4"+ screen that are just starting to appear in particular the Sony Xperia range.

same here, except i read on the train to work. sometimes movies.

my iphone mostly sits on my desk during the day charging. sometimes i'll use ESPN gamecast during the day.

i make maybe 5 calls per month on my phone. mostly text with my wife and others.

It's shocking to me how anyone can make 5 phone calls or have 8 contacts...

I know texting usually does the job but really? And 8 contacts? I have like 12 just of family members...

I could quite easily thin my contacts to be between 5 and 10, some of them I haven't used in a long while, as for using it as a phone, I only call family members on it, any one from work, I use the work phone or walk to see them.

even my work phone i rarely talk on it. mostly just dialing a conference bridge at night if there is an upgrade.

text, email, facebook and data

this is why t-mobile and others are doing plans with barely any minutes but mostly data

a lot of our sales people have iphones and they probably talk hundreds of minutes. i bet lots of other people do to, but for a lot of people these days talking on the phone is a rare thing

my mom talks hundreds of minutes a month but she will probably go for the Galaxy S3. a few older people i've met prefer the bigger screens due to age

I think 4.3-4.5 is definitely the sweet spot for most people, but why do we need phablets? A friend of mine owns a Note, he first bought it because he thought the huge screen was awesome, now he hates it. You just can't be nimble with such a large device.

There is no niche between smartphone and tablet. I'd classify this behemoth in the same category as the Dell Streak, a small tablet that can make phone calls.

some people bought huge SUV's years ago and then hated them

for some people the huge size is perfect for them. fact is that samsung is selling them by the millions and i haven't seen a discount until a few days ago when the note 2 was announced

i know someone who bought it and loves it.

That's just your friend. I know others with it that love it, I own a few business so travel a lot and like I said in a previous post I'm surprised at how many Notes I've seen. It's still way too big for me and def not something I would want or use, but there are obviously a ton of people that bought it and love it. AT&T stores could barely keep them in stock, surprised at the demand this thing had for that niche (which was never meant to compete in volume like the iPhone, or GSII/III). Agree on the size though, love love love the form factor of of 4.3" on my phone. 4.8"+ feels a bit too big to me, can still fit in a pocket fine and use etc, just prefer 4.3"

Far as calls, damn. Even if I didn't make any business calls daily, I have friends or fam calling daily lol. I couldn't imagine making only a few calls a month lol. Even with my work phone at the office still use my cell phone like crazy.

Edit: regarding the video...the features are amazing! ... at least not the gimicky ones. (where's the thumbs up smiley!)

I'm in exactly the same boat as you guys. Not sure what better suits my needs though. A smaller phone and small 7" tablet or save money and go for a all-in-one phablet.

They both have pros and cons, have you guys considered a small phone and small tablet though?

Would make reading (my essential purpose) and film watching 'better' as I too will mainly use this on my commute to/from work and on breaks.

But I do feel that the small tablet will render my phone obsolete as I don't call much either....this for me is a big dilemma

i'm most likely going phablet but one issue i've seen with some android phones is a 4GB file size limitation. not so with iOS

pretty sure this person had enough space on his SD card but it wouldn't let him copy a movie over to his phone

the next iPhone is going to have to be pretty amazing. The note 2 is a fairly tempting device. It's the first phone that's even made me think about switching from apple.

I'm with a lot of you guys, I rarely actually use my phone as a phone. This might work well for me.

I like the feature that records on screen + voice. Very cool! and so much more 'smart'phone like.

plus the cool features with pictures etc.

I am so intrigued by the Note, but I'm afraid my hands are too small for it. If it comes to Verizon I'm definitely going to check it out.

As an advocate of the smaller iPhone screen and someone who laughed a lot at the original note. TBH I think the Note 2 looks good. I always been a firm supporter of the smaller "keep the phone a phone" camp. However times are changing. We use our phones as phones still, but we also use them to consume a lot of content and IMHO the 3.5" iPhone screen is dated. Sure the 4" iPhone might calms things down again. I originally pushed the note 2 as a "stay away" device, but actually looking at it more it does seem strangely appealing. Which is very odd for me to say.

You can argue that a device this size is too big for you, and that might be the case. Other people will argue the iPhone is too small. The fact is Apple has designed a device that tries to cater to everyone, and they done a very fantastic job on it. However I think there will be people who sit on either side of the screen fence. Just like you can get different size MB's (and soon to be iPad) same for phones. :)

Just my 2 cents.
