one thing I like is the multitasking part where you can have 2 app run side by side. hope apple can implement this.

time machine is just the basic backup that has been in ^nix and windows for 2 decades or more

It's true that time machine is a very fancy GUI for back up. But on flip side Apple made backing up popular.

Edit: regarding the video...the features are amazing! ... at least not the gimicky ones. (where's the thumbs up smiley!)

I'm in exactly the same boat as you guys. Not sure what better suits my needs though. A smaller phone and small 7" tablet or save money and go for a all-in-one phablet.

They both have pros and cons, have you guys considered a small phone and small tablet though?

Would make reading (my essential purpose) and film watching 'better' as I too will mainly use this on my commute to/from work and on breaks.

But I do feel that the small tablet will render my phone obsolete as I don't call much either....this for me is a big dilemma

Yes the next move many people are going to make will be interesting.

We will all have a good look at the next iPhone to see what it actually looks like and many dissenters will end up buying it anyway.

For some though the screen size really does matter especially as the capabilities of phones and operating systems start to merge.

The Note 2 may have a screen just too large for many people and it is up there at the extreme end.

What must be of interest to us is all the phones coming out with screen sizes from over 4" up to Note 2 size.

What W8 will be able to achieve is very exciting will it be as fast as Jelly Bean will be of interest as when I played with the Nexus 7 it was impressive once you got past all the irritating Google requests to sign in and log on with your Google account and use Google pay every two seconds.

Personally I will keep my iPad because as a holiday tool its invaluable, I have been using it for 2 years on a commute into Waterloo each morning and its been a pleasure to use despite the fact I have to pack it into my bag rather than slip it into my jacket pocket. But the contract I'm on now is car rather than train.

I wouldn't want to replace it with the forthcoming iPad mini as I like its size and Retina capability.

Over the next 8 weeks we are going to see several new phones with screen sizes 4-6 inches and its going to be very interesting to see what people end up buying and how they get on.

4-6" screen size is key. Be interesting to see what becomes the most popular. Apple might make 4" popular. But at present 4.3-4.7 are getting very common.

I really like it and I'm contemplating on buying one.
I had the original one for a couple of days before figuring out that the speaker did not work.
The guy I had got it from did not have another one and I needed a working phone for my business so I got the HOX which I love.

There were a couple of issues that I noticed on size and how I usually carried and used my phone.
Like when in my pocket it did fit but I was worried on it slipping out when sitting or getting out of the car.

Speaking of car, that was the other thing.
My usual places where put my phone did not work for the note due to the size.
Those are not huge issues and can be worked around.

Anyway I'm pretty certain that I will get one as I also noticed that since moving away from the iPhone and getting my One X I'm also using my iPas way less since the screen since is so nice on the HOX.
My line of thought is that the 5.5 inch display be big enough for me to do away with a tablet and being even more portable that way.

Its the way they do the graphics. Not the backing up. I want samsung to be amazing, but i dont see it happening if they dont come up with something good.

i'm sure star wars copied apple too with their text that goes in the same direction....or is it star trek?

I like Samsung.

no, it was one of the big features of a desktop OS way back when MS launched Windows 95

While I don't doubt that all I meant was Apple slapped a nice GUI on it and popularised it. People rarely backed up their computer until Time Machine.
Backup has existed for years and years and years and years, Apple did not "invent it". They just took a foreign concept and made it user friendly. Even today backing up on non-Mac OSes is still a chew on. Its possible but compared to time machine the interface are generally clumsy.

Anyway this is a non issue compared to the topic :)

Although I'm highly considering one I have no mac experience. How is time machine different from windows automatic backup? Unless it does something different I don't see how it could be easier then something you never mess with. That's been around since win95 or ME.

The Mac doesn't bring anything new. But the whole user interface and setting up is considerably easier. Also browsing and restoring files is lot easier. It's just the whole user interface that's easier. I don't doubt the Windows one is just as powerful its just in terms of ease of use the Apple solution is better or more visually pleasing to the eye. More consumer friendly.

I was very close to purchasing a nexus7. didn't know about those annoying prompts though! I hate things like that. lol waterloo is my station too...but I have a 40min commute and would really want to make it more 'productive'.

Why 8 weeks? What else is coming out? Htc are supposedly doing a 5" but who else?. I wish Sony would do 1.

W8 is overhyped IMO. it will do no more than an iphone and is pretty much a basic OS that will run apps, ala iOS.

I like Samsung.

Its from their other operating system that is being produced with intel. Trizen or something...

getting my One X I'm also using my iPas way less since the screen since is so nice on the HOX.

This is key to me. Im torn cause I feel that they both sort of have their place. I feel that a phablet won't be good enough for a tablet and have some compromises as a phone....better to get a phablet or small phone + small tablet.

I take it it will be dual core when it hits the US being that it will be LTE.

Its funny after 2 years of getting the 5.48 out of Dorking to Waterloo it was so rare to see anyone doing anything more "productive" than slurping coffee and getting through a financial analysis of yesterday's market activities in the FT.

Personally I treasured this brief break in my life between family and work to get lost in a film or TV program.

So Nokia has its event on the 5th, Apple is going on the 12th, Motorola has its event on the 18th

Devices with 4" or over screens that people will be buying 8 weeks from now that they are not right now will include

New iPhone
Samsung Note 2
Various Sony Xperia phones T and J as well as their Tablet S (this week actually).
Huawei G600
Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 with W8 both with over 4.5" screen
HTC Desire X and a rumor new model the Accord or HTC X8 to run W8.
Motorola Droid Razr though name still to be confirmed...

There will be some who will get the next Apple iPhone regardless, but as someone who has had them all so far this is the first time I will be looking seriously at other options.

I can't remember a previous similar short period of time offering so many new devices.

Korea already has that same exynos processor with LTE so i'm guessing it shouldn't be a problem. They will probably come in two or three flavours though.

Lol I thought I was the only one that would appreciate something like that. I can however do without it and would prefer a 10minute journey.

Those don't really do anything for me, I don't think I will be opting a w8 phone, tablet maybe, but not a phone. I don't see any offerings of w8 over iOS like android offers.

Do you own other apple products? Cause that is what most people are wary of.
