Galaxy Note 3

Don't get me wrong it's a great device but couldn't go to a phone that small again. What made you Sell?

Was able to get 5s 64gb for 300usd and I just can't keep 2 phones, main reason was to try ios8 (hoping for good stuff) and through the betas.

The note 3 is a fantastic phone and I'm ready for the note 4 unless apple release a 5.5" phone which I doubt at least in 2014.

Proximity sensor is on the fritz, will have to send it back for a "warranty repair". Given its running CyanogenMod and my warranty is void I'll see how it goes. Sending it back 15th of next month. I'll stick a stock ROM on and see if they notice or care that Knox flags up.

Add random restarts to the battery issue with this lemon.

Really cant wait for my Next period to change devices.

Love the screen, love the phone size itself. Tired of the random glitches and battery weirdness.

Galaxy Note 3

Latest update: I couldn't take it any longer so I did a factory reset and it seems like it fixed my issues. It's only been a half hour or so but battery life looks like it might be fixed. Normally just sitting there it will discharge 1% every 2 mins or so but it's still at 100% charge after 20 mins.

I haven't loaded up any of my old apps yet but I'm crossing my fingers. For backup solution I used a combination of Kies and Helium, hopefully my backed up data survived.

So far battery life has been good. Maybe even better than before the update. Looks like a factory reset is a definite must when you accept the OTA if you want to avoid problems. Strange because I've never had issues in the past with HTC devices. I assumed the same with Samsung, obviously not.

After a reset on Friday night it was still at 85% into Saturday evening with little usage. Even now, I charged it early Sunday morning around 5am, it has been almost 24 hrs since then, and I'm at 82%. Also I only added about a third of the apps I normally use so as to keep a light footprint. I had a ton of apps/data, I think maybe that also had something to do with my poor battery performance as well.

No unresponsive screen or random force closes either.

When doing the reset does it save all your settings and Apps?

Unfortunately not, but I tried to prepare ahead of time. I used the latest Kies to backup photos, S Notes, misc files, a gig of music, and all of my settings/WiFi/passwords etc. Then I used helium to backup all my apps & data to the clouds (took me nearly half a day to back everything up). So far everything seems to be accurate.

Glad it's working for you

You will have to post your battery stats and see the difference.

CM had issues with proximity sensors. There are hacks but just not worth it, IMO. Gotta stick with TW ROMs.

If you're rooted, get Titanium Backup. Very good and fast app backup.

I had the issue before CyanogenMod, its a common issue with Galaxy phones it would seem.

The only time my Galaxy's devices had issues was with CM. Have you tried to ODIN back to stock? You can find it on XDA from your phone model & carrier.

My S4 developed the same issue, and searching for the issue on Google produces 800,000 results for me. Its got to go back to stock when I sent it back for repairs, but I've never had issues before with the proximity sensor in CM before, and the proximity sensor was on the Fritz before I'd even thought about putting CM on.

From what I've read the proximity issues are fairly common. Mine failed on me as well, replaced it under warranty and all is fine...for now.

I think I'm going to pre order the G3, get my Note 3 repaired and sell it to soften the blow of £500

The G3 looks awesome, I just could never get used to the rear buttons on my G2. If I can force myself to say goodbye to the stylus I will probably go with the Icon or maybe go back to the iphone phablet. Gah I have no idea, lol.

I thought the same about the rear buttons, but nearly every G2 review says "I found the rear buttons a little hard to get used to, but after X amount of time they became second nature" So I'm assuming I'll get used to them in plenty of time.

Plus the knock on and knock off pretty much replaces the lock button. So it'd only be volume buttons I'd be reaching around for.

I thought the same thing, that I would get used to it, but I never did. It just didn't feel natural, maybe it was just out of habit. I also found that I pressed them a LOT by accident, when it was in my hand, when it was in my pocket, etc etc. I know you can shut them off, but the knock knock was not good enough for me to use all the time and I preferred to turn it on with the power button, especially if I was turning it on one handed.

Gotcha, GL in getting your N3 repaired and let us know about the G3 if you end up getting one. I've been thinking about getting the G3 but with the N4 months away, I'm not sure if I can afford both since I always hand me down my previous phones to my parents.

I'm not a happy camper right now. Samsung & their crap software is becoming too much of a headache. It's amazing how crappy software can muddy good hardware on the drop of a dime. Just when I thought I was in the clear, my battery was all over the place today. I was dropping at least one percentage every five minutes or so, and when I used my device, it seemed like I was taking huge chunks of battery life in small incremental time frames. Apparently a 5 min session of ridiculous fishing equals 10% usage, and I know I'm being somewhat facetious but it honestly seemed that off today.

Then for a nice night cap, I was on a phone call not even two minutes long when my phone started overheating to the point where I couldn't keep it up against my ear any longer, it was that hot. No indications of anything unusual running under battery log, just your normal android system etc. etc. so I'm almost to a point where I don't even know what could possibly trigger this. No new apps recently, just some light browsing in between work and usual tapatalk usage and that's about it.

At this point I'm really thinking about selling the note 3 and putting that towards an LG G3, don't know if I can hold out for the Note 4 and with Samsung software issues you know they're not one of the most reliable companies to depend on.

The only thing holding me to the N3 is the stylus in all honesty, otherwise I've been less than impressed with the hardware which has failed me twice, I've never been very impressed with Android overall, and having zero Root options really makes me despise Samsung. At this point I'm really just biding my time to see if a sweet windows phone phablet gets released, or what the iPhone phablet will bring.

How are you having zero root options? What carrier are you on? Samsung are easily rooted. I love how people love to blame Samsung when it's the carriers fault for a phone being locked down.
