Galaxy S4 rumored to support floating gestures.

I hear it'll support holographic imagery with a 3D floating display straight out of the game Halo.
But then again, I can make up some crap too a play them off as just "rumors".

Pretty sure most people use them. Even if they aren't new innovations.

So not only would this make using a phone with one hand even more difficult - really the only benefit I can see is that it would get rid of fingerprints on your screen.......

Yeah but Samsung didn't trademark anything to do with holographic imagery or file patents for holographic imagery. Samsung did, however, trademark the term "Samsung Air Gestures" and file patents for camera-based gesture tracking.

I'd bet neither will feature any true innovation - at least not hardware wise. We're most likely another year or two away from a big splash there.
Software wise, some things can be done - but the word "innovaton" gets thrown around so much these days.....I'd argue we haven't seen any REAL innovation in a while.

Hmmm....pretty sure one handed operation is the last thing anyone getting a 5 inch phone cares about. Only small display users go on about one handed use. And it's usually iPhone users. Apple is the only company that tries to express the importance of one handed use because they don't have a bigger screen. In fact they're trying to sell one handed operation on the iPad mini. Yup, can't use a 5 inch phone with one hand, but sure can use an 8 inch tablet with one hand. Sorry, but the only people that buy and support that claim are the blind followers.

In the official iPad Mini video, Jon Ive explicitly says "...you can still pick it up and easily use it with one hand..." Easily. Earlier in the video, they make the distinction that you can hold it with one hand, but at the 2:10 mark, they're clearly talking about using it with one hand. The video briefly demonstrates one handed use, too.

Going by that reasoning, any device can be used one handed, yet according to their iPhone 5 campaign, one of the main talking points is that anything larger than a 4" smartphone is unusable with one hand.
So either the iPad Mini can be used one handed (like it says in the video) and therefore so can other smaller smartphones, or nothing above the iPhone 5 screen size (like it says in the iPhone campaigns) can be used one handed in which case the iPad Mini video is a lie.
Or, just Apple marketing.
PS. No interest in Floating Gesture. In fact, I hope they don't do it, because it'll clearly be experimental, and I don't want the S4 to compromise battery/bugs just to say they have it. Let the Note line or something experiment with this. I would certainly call it a gimmick at this point. It likely won't even be true, regardless.

Copying and infringing on patents is not innovating nor thinking of new things.

Fair enough, was going by what's on the iPad mini page rather than in the videos.
Of course, it is possible that Ive was simply stating his opinion and not part of any marketing scheme.
a better question is how long before apple steals EVEN MORE from samsung/android?

-pull-down notifications
-video recording (first 3 iphone DID NOT have it)
-panoramic camera
-front facing camera
-video calling (and they got that wrong - it required wi-fi)
-taking pictures while shooting video
-multi-tasking (even though they still did it wrong)
-wireless syncing
-tabbed browsing
-quick launching of apps from lock screen
-quick reply
-facebook integration
-browser sync
-turn-by-turn navigation
-larger-than-3.5" screen size
I know I'm missing some things, but what I want to know is why didn't samsung and google get together and sue the pants off of apple?
they could even hit them up for a portion of the profits for every iphone out...
Apple also never used to have screen shots in their App store when you clicked on an App to see what it looks like till after Google did it. Looks like they copied the whole layout.
I dont really have a problem with it. It is betyer that way to see the screen shots but its just that Apple are hypocrites while suing others.

Half of that stuff was in lots of phones before Android, so how did they "steal it from Android" ?
Video recording/tabbed browsing/multi tasking/front facing camera/video calling can't possibly be stolen from Android when they've been around as long as I've used computers!
Turn by turn navigation wasn't an Android first either. Ever heard of satellite navigation systems?
Quick launching of apps from lock screen uses a complete different method in iOS to Android. In iOS you can launch apps you've received a notification for; on Android you can put shortcuts for certain apps on the lock screen.
What is quick reply? You have always been able to hit "view" on a popup notification to jump straight to a message and reply in iOS.
In fact, out of your list that you clearly put NO thought into whatsoever, about the only two things that can be attributed to Android (as far as I know) are picture whilst taking a video and pull down notifications.
Are you kidding me? You do know the apple took a lot of features from others and just made it better? They are notorious for that. They invented nothing new. Do u consider that copying? open ur eyes... they are not that innocent. Smh
