I think that it has never really been more clear to people how different these companies and their mobile OS's are. I don't even consider them to be in competition anymore. People buy one or the other for different reasons, and that's great. Samsung should be, and probably is, more worried about other Android manufacturers.

I don't know why everyone insist on seeing this giant war between the two. Yes, they have both ripped each other off in different ways. But I don't think you will find a more polarized example of how experiences differ when you compare any recent iPhone running iOS to any recent Galaxy running Touchwiz'd Android.

Although I enjoy my iPhone, for various reasons I felt an immediate need to try out Android. Samsung's Galaxy S4 had just been released & it was at a time prior to the Note 3 rumors.

So I bought the S4, found it fun, fast and Amazing. Between Google & Samsung they've created an excellent smart phone. One feature of interest prior to the purchase was the larger display. Little did I realize how big of a difference it would make in both efficiency & enjoyment of the phone.

Then in what seemed like a very short time rumors of the soon to be released Note 3 leaked. Personally I think it's the Note 3 that had a negative effect on the flagging S4 sales. Why? Because I couldn't resist an even larger display, and given the rather large number of existing Note users that upgraded to the 3, along with others coming from other brands, S4's suffered.

Although Apple lovers constantly compare their phones to Android, I think it's a mistake. They're two distinctively different platforms for two rather different target markets.

At the end of the day, Apple does as Apple wants no matter the product. With the best brand in tech, Apple can convince shoppers to buy anything they build. The indelible print of Jobs was to convince legions that only Apple knows best. With that mentality people will wait no matter what. Oh sure a few might stray, but the impression Steve left impacted others so permanently they'll never risk making their own decision.

Agree with this. As I said earlier the competition in the android space is getting crazy. I feel an earlier s5 has more to do with that than with anything else. This is good.

And the s5 may address the whole plastic issue they are so often criticized for.

If Samsung launch the S5 in Jan it would be suicide tbh, not long after they launched the S4 they announced the Snapdragon 800 version, which launched in Korea about 3 months ago & is also gonna be international sometime this or next month, this itself angered alot of S4 buyers as they felt they been short changed by Samsung.

Launching the S5 so soon would just tip people over the edge on their decision to buy Samsung again in the future, as they never actually know how long their purchase will be the top flagship for, moreso those that paid top dollar for a simfree version.

Apple on the otherhand will stick to the yearly updates on it's flagships, as this get people excited on what the next device will bring & when it comes to launch people will flock for it so to speak lol, as it seen now with the 5s.

If Apple followed the same road as Samsung is currently doing, saturate the market with a dozen or so handset's & variations of the flagship handset's then people will think oh another iphone and sales will drop off considerably.

The iPhone 6 will launch in September 2014 & sell millions like the past iPhones, the 5s will become the new 5c or they might just scrap that idea all together which i think they should or will, and sell the 5s as it is now but at a cheaper price like past iPhones.

Samsung on the otherhand will see sales of the S5 less than that of the S4, because people will become disillusioned in the way Samsung is going, me included that why i ditched the S4 in favor of the 5s, and i know of a couple others that are also considering switching from Samsung to Apple.

However all this Knox and lockdown stuff from Samsung is scaring me very much, they are tightening their grip
I will only buy google edition samsung devices if knox isn't changed/made optional since it's really an enterprise feature

Actually it can be defeated with ease. We are what 20 days out from the note 3 release and it's already been defeated via rooting and disabling/freezing the program via tweak programs. Literally a monkey could do it without having to reinstall anything.

I have the Note 3 and I'll tell you what, I will never be purchasing another Apple product. The stuff you can do with android and redesigning you can do is limitless. The S pen makes it fantastic for productivity and organization.

Meanwhile Apple still hasn't figured out that hands come in more than two configurations...they STILL do not allow customizing of the keyboard, I mean for hell sakes at least allow size adjustments. Where as android has several alternatives.

Though samsung's use of proprietary connectors for the phone piss me off. I really think this behavior should be outlawed, we have two well known standards that are plenty small, pick one!

As for the S5 coming in January? Makes no sense. Its samsung's flagship phone they'll sell it before the holidays. Unless they're pulling an Apple and are going to release a half baked S5 mid year (iPad 3 anyone?) and a polished one in October.

I feel like we have reached commoditization of smart phones. Those who don't care are perfectly happy with their s3 or s4. Whereas the hardcore gadget guys can only buy so many phones. There will probably be a precipitous fall in sales of most high end phones over the next few years.

I have the disposable income and a extra upgrade on my account. I really don't see myself getting another phone to replace my note 3 for years.

Another Android fan labeling iPhone users as sheep who follow Apple blindly as they worship Steve Jobs at an altar  do you know how many iPhone users have tried Android and gone back to the iPhone? A TON. I should know because I am one of them. The S3, S4, Note 2 and most recently the G2. Believe it or not, there are plenty of people who have tried both and *gasp* prefer the iPhone and iOS to Android. Shocking isn't it?
