The second picture, ...i actually saw one very similar today in Best Buy. Think it was a Note 3 with that same black leather looking backing. Felt good, nice and grippy but the leather looking back covered the whole backside.

Yep, I was given a Note 3 for work, and I like the leather back for a couple of reasons:

1. Unlike other iOS and Android phones, I didn't need to buy a case to make it grippy.

2. It's a nice skeuomorph of a leather notebook :)

Samsung and resale you joking:p Maybe in the first few weeks but it's all down hill after that.

If you're too poor to get the next model without selling the old one, then yes, resale value is important. Of course, if you didn't pay as much to begin with, that helps too.

However, according to survey, the majority of people (80% iOS, 90% others) don't bother to resell their phone. Passing it down is more likely, as almost 1/3 of iPhone owners do so.

Resell is now irrelevant to me. AT&T Next gives me 12 month upgrades. Got my S5 on week 1 of release. Next upgrade is now 10 months away.

My 5S will get passed down, the S5 will go back to AT&T, and I'll get whatever is latest and greatest then. Resell, and android updates is now a non-issue.

Galaxy S5 Prime includes a metal back casing..

I can't with Samsung. They will come out with a billion different versions of the S5 before it's all and done. Ridiculous from a consumer standpoint, especially if they are locked in a two-year contract.

Just because it's plastic doesn't make it impervious to scratches. The plastic chrome ring Samsung uses, I have seen plenty of devices with flaked off bits of the chrome paintwork revealing the white plastic underneath. I would put a case on any of my devices simply to preserve their resale value.
indeed I haven had plenty of plastic phones and even now I have the nexus 5. The quality of plastic I think varies a lot and is very important just as the quality of metal does.

I had the note 3 and the build quality was the worst piece of crqp I have had. Like you said, after a few months the paint off the plastic came off and just looked really bad.

I love the feeling of metal devices like the HTC one and no one can deny that they have an extra premium feeling.

Really? That's the first I've ever had of that happening on the note 3

Well, going on the assumption that this is truly what the device looks like (and like aeboi, I personally have doubts), Samsung has succeeded in making an even uglier rear panel. Geez, that's awful. Here's a thought, stop making plastic try to look like another material (leather, metal, etc) and oh, I don't know, make it look like quality plastic. Asus, Nokia, and Apple have done it, so it certainly is possible.

Here's a perfect example where copying someone else would be a good thing. Samsung...please stop trying your own designs and just do us a favor and just rip somebody else off. ;)

I gotta say I like the fake leather back.

I got the gs4 black edition fake leather back and use no case.

My hands are usually sweaty, the texture is great for me.

Fake chrome bezel is honestly my only complaint build wise(have a few tiny knicks of paint off). Maybe more protection around the camera lens.

You should check white S5 back. That thing is very nice.
