I guess you could do that if you have a complete BS major.... like political science ;)

*takes cover from the flak

I played games through most of college and graduated with a degree in Journalism and Broadcasting with a 3.5GPA. It's all about knowing which classes to b*llsh*t and which classes to put effort into. Gaming fills in all the gaps (It's also a nice stress reliever after exams and papers) So yeah, like Lethal said, don't be a p*ssy. If you can't game and pass your classes, you're just not motivated enough.

Don't play too many games... Go out. College is amazing. Study some and go out and have fun the rest of time.

College will NOT restrict you from having a personal life, but there is a good amount of work to be done. It's all about time management. I played CS heavily for a while, and am getting WoW soon.. but I have managed to be on dean's list all semesters and keep a 3.92 GPA. It's not impossible, but you really need to just keep track of your time.

I'd play until dinner time, then do homework after, and if there was any time left (which there usually was), then I'd play until god knows when. Except when it's time for an article to be done... then I have to put my games in the closet for a few days.

I will offer this bit of advice. You asked if peopel in college have time to play graphic intensive games. To that I answer yes. I graduated just this past semester from a rather intense 4 year liberal arts deal, but that didn't stop me from getting a little instant gratification after class with UT and later UT2k4.

I would avoid pretty much anything made by Blizzard, and various other MMORPGs. Graphic intensive does not mean time consuming, and that is what you have to avoid. However, you can put that thing to work in a number of ways. So get to it, you are in college, be creative. Find a new way to make your MBP fan run full blast.

D is for Diploma.

After you get your first job, no one will care what your college GPA was. No one will care that you were the student body undersecretary. No one will care that you skipped classes to play WoW.

HEY! Im a poli sci major (and business minor) but i dont plan on graduating and just hanging my poli sci diploma on the wall and working at mcdonalds. Its right off to law school for me. Some of us PS majors DO have a future purpose!

EDIT: oh yeah the gaming thing, I did well my first year of college and managed to do a bit of gaming (nothing crazy, maybe like 2-4 hours a week at most). Ive never been hardcore into PC games. But hey if you can manage yr time well enough to be able to play games and do well, then do it, dont let anyone tell you that you cant play games in college. Do what you enjoy before you work 40 Hrs a week (like me..)

It kind of bothers me to see all these posts saying that people in their spare time play games instead of going out or being involved with your peers. You people need to realize that college is where you begin to make you mark on the world, and where you will meet the best friends you will ever have. Drink up every drop of it. You'll never have this chance again.

college gaming

you will find that pc gaming becomes really lonely unless you get a bunch of people in your hall/residential area to play with thier doors open so you can hear the wails of anguish when you get headshot after headshot. In circumstances other than these, your best bet is to get the macbook (unless you need it for professional apps like i do) and use the saved cash to get an n64 with smash brothers, goldeneye, and mario cart. along with an xbox if you are into the whole halo thing. Game parties where you can see the other parties are the bomb shizzle.

I just graduated last week from a four year liberal arts school that is somewhat highly regarded. That being said, gaming in college can be a HUGE time consumer. My roommates and I split time between our Xbox 360 on the 63'' DLP we have and Battlefield 2 (mostly BF2) for at least 3-4 hours a day. While I have the ability to get pretty good grades while never attending class, my roommates' grades suffered some because of the distraction. Just make sure you have your studies in order before you try to start gaming a lot, your college GPA depends on it :D
