Any one tried using FSX under bootcamp on an iMac ?
I've just bought an iMac 3.06 to replace my aging AMD, often sim around flying about in FSX.

Intend to install XP soley for FSX.

Any idea whether the iMac FPS should fly or not ? (pun intended).

I also posted in gaming, but to give my feedback...

I installed COD4 on the new 3.06ghz machine.
Running on 2gig ram but the game flies. Graphics look awesome.

The optimal settings handled by the machine set it at everything max except for resolution which it defaults to about 1064.

I bump it up to 1920x1200 anyway and it runs fine to my eyes.
Sometimes when running it chops a bit but with the extra detail it's easier to make my kills. :)

Machine does feel hot to the touch on the top though. But it is super quiet.

I ran the CounterStrike:Source hardware benchmark on my 2.8/2GB/8800GS iMac and got around 246 FPS. I don't game much but that is plenty fast for me!

Just tried to play COD2 under OS X. Extremely disappointing, obviously there are driver issues for the 8800gs in OS X because I am getting 10fps with all settings turned down. It really sucks that Apple release a gaming Imac that performs sub par when gaming natively. Not much incentive to buy Mac games.......

Wow I used to get 30 FPS on my old MacBook, and it had a GMA 950!

How do you get 70 to 80 fps in WoW ? I put everything on max but I only get 30 fps. Does it depend where your standing ? I was in Shatt so lot of ppl, maybe it has to do with that

I have the latest 24" iMac and HL2, TF2, and CoD4 all run beautifully on the highest settings at the highest resolution. You can count FPS all you want but they run as smooth as silk.

I'd love to see some FPS figures from people who own a new iMac 3.06Gz 8800 GS and play the OSX Eve Online Mac Client

Is anyone else getting screen tearing while running Vista x64 on the new 3.06Ghz iMacs with the 8800GS? And not just in games...

The GeForce 8800GS is solidly in Nvidia’s mid-range graphics chip category. It lacks the horsepower or the oomph of some of the company’s higher-end products, even though Apple tweaked it a bit with better memory bandwidth and more VRAM (256-bit and 512MB, respectively).

From the MacWorld article. Kinda misleading actually, since Apple didnt tweak it, they just renamed it. Unless im very much mistaken its an 8800M GTX. I am going to assume the clocks are the same? I mean the iMac housing on the 24" is bigger than any notebook housing so it should be fine cooling wise. Anyway the GTX is a high-end part, for notebooks. Ok so its not the TOP END desktop card, but its got all the important parts.

I was super impressed with my 3.06 ghz iMac. I am currently dual booting Windows Vista Business and downloaded a ton of demos to see how it runs. Half-life 2 episode 2 runs maxed out with room to spare. Battlefield 2, which used to bring computers to its knees, runs maxed out at 100 fps. Crysis for me ran at all high settings and 1400x900 on DX 10. Bioshock ran maxed out (DX 10), call of duty 4 ran maxed out, all at very comfortable and playable settings, even online. I also downloaded Flight Simulator X and was able to run it at its highest settings, which is very difficult to do with DX 10 on this game. Fear also runs maxed out.

Overall, Apple is really pushing the envelope with its computers now, you can do everything on them, including gaming.

Is there any likelihood that Apple may (soon!) start using a Desktop GPU in the 24" ??

Especially since the new chipsets coming out next year will run much cooler and the Nvidia 9 series are also much more efficient ??

Please can someone try Command and Conquer 3 under bootcamp with the 8800GS? I've just tried it with my previous rev 24" iMac, and it's very jerky at 1920x1200. Wondering if it's worth an upgrade...

Cheers...

Hello

i've installed windows vista home premium,
got 4GB ram, 8800gs, 3.06Ghz imac
and playing Age of Conan,
runs supersmooth, but game crashes due to "out of memory"

My question,
not a solution for this problem,
but simply,
is xp better then vista for gaming,
as i can't find any recent drivers for the xp bootcamp
any hints on where to get the newest drivers for the geforce 8800gs for xp bootcamp?
Game runs a lot faster on vista then xp, alltho it might be just due to drivers?
Prefer to use xp for gaming as i got a tweaked "cleaned up" version which is rly nice.

grtz

Did you install Vista SP1? I know LotRo had a problem like this earlier with Vista and crashing due to memory issues with machines with large amounts (4 GB and higher). I'd check that first and if not, since Age of Conan is in beta, report the bug and wait for a patch :)
