iPhone 17 Pro Max Geekbench 7 has forced apple back into competition

With the release of geekbench 7 releasing Thursday and the results coming in. It seems like the iPhone 17 pro max results have dropped by a significant margin making the iPhone no longer the single core the leader that it once was and bringing it closer to the andriod competition competing against the likes of the snapdragon 8 elite gen 5 and surprisingly exynos 2600.

Has your opinion changed much since geekbench 7 released thinking they need to be more competitive or are your opinion mostly unchanged?

I don't care about phone benchmarks. I don't use it like a Macbook Pro or my desktop PC - my phone is either perfectly responsive or it's not.

iPhone Air numbers have really fallen with Geekbench 7! But it doesn’t feel any different lol in fact it’s the best it’s been on iOS 26.6 😃🤣

You cannot compare Geekbench 6 scores to Geekbench 7 scores.

Even if you could, how many normal consumers outside MR are buying phones just based on which ones have a 150 higher score in Geekbench?

It’s great to know the sheer raw power modern day smartphones have, still blows the mind that we carry such ludicrously powerful devices in our pockets daily, more so the more recent ones that have a heavy focus on neural engines and AI models.

With the above being said, I have cared less and less how iPhone compares on benchmarks to Android, I’ve cared more about the leap (read as: step) between each iPhone generation though.

Androids can have all the huge raw power but due to poor developer support + fragmentation they seem to always lag behind in game optimisation versus iPhone and other iOS devices like iPad.

As long as Apple is the only vendor designing iOS products, there will be zero competition. Competition against android isn’t meaningful these days as at that point we are comparing Apple to orange.
