My iPhone was having issues with its lightning port, and someone on a drone pilots forum suggested digging in the lightning port with a plastic or wood toothpick, and it solved it. One small chunk of lint and dog fur came out and it works perfect now.

Follow up to my iPad Pro not charging.
I sent away to Amazon for the kit to change the charging port and also ordered a new port, which cost me a total of $30.00. I was going to do it myself but instead I called a local shop called “Pro Fix Wireless”. I brought it in and the owner said he could fix it. He said he would charge me the cost of a new screen;if he broke it while changing the port which was about $130.00. If he broke it he would get the new screen and change the port at no additional charge. He said he could do it today and it would take about an hour. Well, an hour later he said it was done, I paid him $150.00 even and brought the iPad home and gave it a full charge. I am totally disappointed in Apple for their lack of effort in making this minor repair that took an hour to fix and the port cost $10.00. I did buy a new iPad Pro 5th edition so now I have two. I am positive it won’t go without being used by someone in the family.
If anyone has a similar situation, contact me and I will give you all the info needed for you to contact my repair shop and arrange to mail your item to them and get your charging port replaced for cheap money.

So, a Gen 3 iPad Pro, 12.9", over the period of a couple of weeks, slowly gave up the ability to be charged. First it was picky about which charger and cable was usable, then it became intermittently unreliable with any charger/cable combo, and now it just flat won't charge from any source, including my iMac. All indications are that the female connector on the iPad is bad, or the solder used to install it has fractured, or the battery health is such that it just can't accept a charge.

If these assumptions are good, then it would seem likely that the iPad ought to be repairable. Not so, says the Apple authorized BestBuy repair team. That connector cannot be replaced they tell me, and the iPad is doomed. So, it's 2 years and 2 months old. Cost something like $1800 with the pencil and keyboard, and it's not salvageable??? What a deal!! Suddenly my Apple loyalty is being heavily tested. Years of Apple products, at least since OS9, and just about everything you can have that's Apple branded now - iPhones, iMacs, MacBook Pros, Watch, Home Pod, you name, I've got it. But, now, I own a two-year old throw away $1800 solid state item....really?

My ultimate question is, when I get through bitching, has anyone else encountered the same issue with an iPad (although the connector on the iPhone seems to be the same)? Any advice, or calming thoughts would be much appreciated.

Regards to all, and I wish you all perfect Apple reliability,

HS

They will probably just send you a new iPad, same model and year. Look on YouTube “how to change a charging port on an iPad Pro 3rd edition or whatever model you have. The charging port and the necessary tools are about $30.00

Try to get clairfication. If they are saying that they connected their charger to the port and it charged then it implies that there is something wrong with your charger or cable.

My 2021 12.9 iPad Pro is not consistently charging. This started happening in Aug and has continued. When I do a reboot it will charge. Could it also mean the USB port is failing and should I just trade it in for a new 12.9 Pro. Just dislike doing that when they will probably be updated in the Spring. Thanks!

Unless the problem is accelerating you could probably wait until spring to trade it in and just deal with the problem until then. You have tried the normal things like new cables and a full reset and set up as new?

Thats the trouble right, the longer you wait the greater the chance of less than the already meager trade-in value.

Or find a 3rd party iPhone/iPad repair place and see if they can replace the USB port.

I know - right now it is $510 trade in value, so could either get a M1 12.9 Celluar (same as I have) for $953 refurbished (minus trade in value) or get the M2 12.9 for about $200 more (military prices). Probably should for for the M2, as it least a little newer and may hold value a little better when I trade in on the news that come out.

According to iFixit, the USB-C Connector on the iPad Pro is not Soldered on and is completely modular. There is no reason for them to be saying it can’t be repaired. It can.
I had the same experience. Best Buy said no go, went to a phone/tablet repair place they said no problem. I don't recall the quote, but it was reasonable.
