I find it to be quite nice (the sidebar) and have already expanded my horizons just a bit. I've also been reminded of old songs that I already owned and had not listened to in quite a while.

yet more proprietary crap - isnt this illegal?

hmmm would like to try it out but need a credit card to activate it??? wtf???? when i buy a car i dont need a credit card to turn on the radio! i hate ipod and wish there was an alternative to it but until tht day ill need to put up with their crap - if you purchased a computer and were told you couldnt surf the internet unless you gave a credit card 'incase' you make a purchase i think there would be a lot more vocal ppl but the masses of ipod users are caught in the apple monopoly. waiting wishing and hoping for something better

I went with "Not sure yet." To this point, I haven't played around with it. Since a lot of tracks I have are either tagged with my own set of genres or do not appear in the iTunes store, I don't know how effective it would be for me.

When in iTunes or on my iPod, I either pick specific songs I want to hear, or I shuffle the entire available library. If I don't like the next song in the list, I skip it.

I am not using 'Genius' It is far from being a so-called 'Genius' When I play a genius mix that is labelled Jazz Mix,and it plays Bing Crosby's version of "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas",thats when I know that someone @ Apple has to look up the word Jazz in the dictionary. What a Joke.

Troll alert.

If you "get info" for that song and it is categorized as Jazz and other people have also submitted it to the database as Jazz, then yes, the Genius mix will add it as Jazz as well. Don't see why you guys don't understand this very simple concept...

Well if I stop getting

"Genius is unavailable for the song xxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Choosing Update Genius from the Store menu will update your Genius results etc…"

I might use it… but otherwise it is useless.

I am still playing with the Genius playlist feature. I tend to listen to music by artist, not playlists, so I have been a bit slow to adopt. The purchase recommendation sidebar was interesting, but it recommends items already in my library, so, out it goes. I have had enough of my wife buying duplicates......

HTR, B!*

But I still love Genius (and the sidebar since I don't use last.fm or Pandora).

*Holy Thread Revival, Batman!

Ha! I don't even remember starting this thread/poll.
Irony: I finally turned on Genius a year later. With iTunes 9. Pretty cool. But so far not enough diversity in the song mix.
