I had the same problem, they couldn't reproduce it, but said they'd replace it anyways. Very good service in my case. Just have to get the right person.

He did say that he would "note the issue" in case I have to come in again for it. Not sure if they will just let me wear them down on this. I almost flipped my lid the other day when I mashed the home button five times really really hard and it still would not wake. Another episode like that and I will be back at the bar I guess.

I think it is a hardware issue at least 90% of the time. I have seen it on every iPhone 4 I have used that is more than 6-10 months old. I think there is probably an occasional software issue (<10%), which is why they ask you to close all the apps.

I agree with that. I've noticed when pressing the button past the initial "click" it's really easy to input more than one tap with a small movement of my thumb. Putting in a setting for home button click speed may help out those troubled with frequent double presses.

Hmmm, you modified your iPhone. I'm sure that is a violation of warranty terms.

I would definitely go back if you have the time and just see if you can get someone else who is willing to just replace it for you. The problem is persisting, so now they'll have two notes of the problem existing, even though they can't reproduce it.

Where the fresh snow don't go.
When that idiot of a genius says that, just tell them that you would like to speak with a manager. That should clear up some issues...the genius that helped you probably just got hired for the winter sales they'll be having.
